I saw this bus in a VW magazine in 1989. At the same time I was debating buying an "already shortened" Samba with Jackmans from Poor Richards VW shop in WV for $600. I never bought the shorty Samba. :( I'm wondering if anyone knows any more about either bus.
I know shorties aren't well received anymore but at the time it seemed "cool" to me. Every time I see a shorty for sale I wonder if it was either of these. The one in the magazine article was from Pompano Beach FL. I'd be interested to hear any info.

I get the reference to the Rapper Too Short (who was big in the 80's)
Todd Anthony Shaw (born April 28, 1966 in Los Angeles, California), better known by his stage name Too $hort, is an American rapper who started his career at the age of seventeen in Oakland, California. |

They are basicly unloved bastards of vehicles. If you really want one, please buy one that has already been shortened, which seems like your intention. Bringing one of those back to life is commendable to some extent, shortening a new one is punishable by death. They do pop up for sale here once in a blue moon and at reasonble prices. |

This one could be yours.
The seller is someone I've known for years, real nice guy.

I wonder if that's this bus. My neighbor took this picture in the early 70's, and I scanned it a couple years back. Look at the shape of the rear flares - pretty similar...

I'm not looking to buy one. I just wondered about the featured bus, and I wondered if anyone ever bought and completed the "Poor Richards" shorty in the 80's/90's.
That was soooo long ago I don't even remember anyone except Joe B that worked there. |

Did somebody say shorty?
Yeah, they are the ugly stepchild of most vw thoughts and dreams. I have been slowly putting mine together. Although I have since got distracted by real vw's - but still intend to fix up and mod out my shorty. With taste....you know. Here is my *stolen* vision of shortys of the future (based on a well known vw sites logo double cab)
Pictures of my shorty's progress are listed at:

I know I'm probably not right in the head or something, but I actually really want to find a solid shorty bus in a barn or something that I can stick a motor in and drive around. |

I'm in South Carolina, but it'd have to be cheap (read: practically free) right now or I wouldn't be able to afford it since I'm poor. |

I'd say the best tell here is that they both have the two jacking points next to eachother...probably a match! |

I recently shared that picture with the guy currently selling it here in the classifieds and he thought it was his bus, too. |

The doglegs look the same.
The scoops have changed, it's got a roof rack, a different front bumpe, and different wheels. It might be the same.... |

Maybe.....The flare doesn't go as far down as the other one either. |

It took ten years but I've since seen both shorties in question. The short samba resides in a barn in PA |
