Love the bus, missed the thread the first time around.

I added the extra ground wire to mine and it works great. That seems to be what many have done to improve the weak original grounds.

Good to know. Thanks

FTR, I was referring to the taillights...the original grounds there are not good at all. I didn’t have to add grounds to the headlights, but it def sounds like you have iffy connections up there. I think the FAQ thread on light improvements covers this.

I have added real grounds to both the rear housings and headlights. The rear housings I just used a zip screw with a ring terminal to a known good ground. The headlamps received a ground wire going to a known good ground and I also added relays and the light output is greatly improved.

Could you guys provide any pictures of this improvement for me to go off of please?

There is some discussion in this thread but the only pics I saw at a glance are of grounds on reverse light housings. Same idea, tho.

Frustrating night in the shop. I've known the rear drivers side axle has had a leak for a couple months. I dont drive it much, so I didnt think a whole lot about it. I finally tore it all apart tonight and found that the bottom 2 bolts in the axle cap had completely backed out and the top two were loose. Wth? Also, for the lowered guys out there, do your swing plates dig into your shocks like mine do?

I can honestly say this thing may be going back to stock. This is really starting to suck...

I have seen offset spring plates do that before. Modified plates with lengthened axle tubes don't have that clearance issue. As I recall, some folks cut the dust cap off the top half of the shock absorber for clearance.

Those axle bearing cap bolts didn't come loose for no reason. They were likely not torqued properly. Start fresh, get everything bolted back together, and drive on.

Going back to stock height won't lessen complication. Have you ever rebuilt a reduction box? Much more going on in there than your straight axle, and the seals can still leak.

Yea, it's possible I just didn't torque them down. I'll pull the other side off today too make sure that side is good too. Better now then on the side of the road

Yes, just cut those dust guards off the shocks to work with those spring plates. That’s why some offset plates have a lower shock mount built in

I had the panel logo'd last week. tried to make it look like it'd be there for awhile. Hope you like it. it's a faux company, but it was done in honor of my dad. Year he was born and his childhood phone number, along with town he grew up in.

Did Fred lend a hand on that one? I know he's "retired" but I figured just maybe you dragged him kicking and screaming out of the woodwork.

Looking good by the way.

No, Fred didn't do it. Upper Hand Signs in Fargo did it. Couple of guys keeping the sport of hand lettering alive around here. I need to send pictures to Fred still. Thanks for the reminder!

Yea ! The logo's look great !! You just need to leave it outside for some natural fade .... :)

JoelH Tue Dec 01, 2020 7:13 am

I did have him distress them as much as he could. As time goes on, they'll continue to fade. Thanks for the props tho!!
