I am wrong if I heard that the big top tent was a 'one year only' item?
I took a look at the main threads about this and at some pics from the gallery and noticed people says 1966, 1967...

one year only? which one?
two years only? which ones?
65-76?

Mines a '67 but ive seen 66's and even early bays with tents that look pretty similar. The again, ive only set mine up once, so they may be world apart if you really examine them :?

Yes, most 65-67 came with the big top (or the mounting for it),
but a few 65-67s came with the peaked tent (or the mountings for it)
I have only seen this option on the euro sold but US spec SO-42s.

Susan's bus 'Zapper':

The splitty 'big top' has the frame inside the canvas (endoskeleton)
while the Bay 'big top' has the frame outside the canvas (exoskeleton).

I have a long strip that was on the roof of a non-westy camper that was for a tent. What do you call it and how did it work? I'll be bringing it and some other stuff to bulli to sell.

Great! I was hoping someone would address that.

Love that walker-topped westy. I had a walker topped bay window westy for years. Amazing campers, best of Dormobile and the best of westy.

Do the Euro SO-42s have regular pop-outs??

That bus is missing the Jalousies?

But very, very, very cool.

Yes, they have two pop-outs, no jalousies. See: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=220422

Susan's bus is awesome. She likes it too, she's had it over 25 years :)

Endoskeleton:

Exoskeleton:

I do not know for sure that the tent was changed exactly at the split/bay changeover.
However, the splitty brouchures show the endoskeleton, the bay brouchures show the exoskeleton.
