Information from later in the thread:
HeSa wrote: A star coil is not the only correct coil for pre 1952 Splits. Infact it seems that it is incorrect for 1951 cars.
Bosch 1952 blue spare parts book lists the following:
VW 1947-1950: TE 6 A 3 früher = earlier TL 6/1
VW 1951: same as above
For Goliath the change from TL 6/1 to TE 6 A 3 is mentioned and took place on 11 November 1950. For VW the date is not mentioned.
The TE 6 coils are not star coils. They have the "reserve" place for the third connector in the bakelite as seen in the picture. The other end has a round pressing.
And it appears to be the correct coil for splits. For 1951s and for some in the range of 1947-1950. At least according to Bosch :)

TL 6/1 was used before November 1, 1950
TE 6 A3 was used after November 1, 1950
TE6B1 was used on August 14, 1956 starting with chasis 1261493

Someone in BC sold two TK/6 (one NOS in box one nice used) to a friend of mine as a correct star coils for his 1950 split. 600 euros he paid.
He came back to Mexico all happy with his finds and I had to tell him the truth. |

Ricardo,
Do you mean the diameter of the coil itself or the bead around the "star" of the coil?

| interesting style of coil there but obviously neither a VW nor Porsche with that type of mounting, looks like a possible bargain if you need a wrong part that hasnt been "proofed" the seller should know better than to represent it as a VW part ... |

A star coil is not the only correct coil for pre 1952 Splits. Infact it seems that it is incorrect for 1951 cars.
Bosch 1952 blue spare parts book lists the following:
VW 1947-1950: TE 6 A 3 früher = earlier TL 6/1
VW 1951: same as above
