In the process of installing carpet in my 59 ghia and cannot figure out how to remove the shift lock. Can access the rear bolt; however, unsure how to access the front one. Any ideas???

These things are more trouble than they are worth, but can't discard it since it was original to the car. I think I did find the answer on the link you referenced.
