Pictures of the final product? You like the weitec springs?

Yeah I like them. The truck was high in the front with a saggy tail end, but now the stance is slightly lower in front, so when I have the bed loaded or when I'm trailing my boat, it sits level. the ride is tight and smooth - no more double bouncing over dips and speedbumps etc...

Replaced my broken-off stump of an antenna with a new OEM antenna, using the excellent instructions provided by Ken Wilford of Van-Again:

Now the old Blaupunkt radio gets many more than just three stations, which is a very good thing, because the local college station's avant garde classical music was getting REAL old.

The cassette player doesn't work, but I just received from Crutchfield a new Panasonic unit, which will be going in real soon.

Among other things, I fixed my gearbox problem, patched a small rust hole in the windsheild channel and traced a sloppy steering issue to possibly being this:

It's actually not quite as scary as it looks as there is a woven fiber core embedded in the rubber, but still.......

Here's the part# in case anybody needs to order one and the area where it lives.

I also replaced the bushing between the upper and lower shaft as they were quite worn too. I haven't driven it yet so I don't know if I fixed the problem or not.

I took pics, drove it around and uploaded videos to youtube and my own server....

It's for sale :(

2 new rear wheel brake cylinders, I drove 14 ours yesterday and 5 minutes after I get on the job I notice a big wet spot from brake fluid by my rear wheel :-/ $14 bucks each for new cylinders, Meyle. Easy change too, back to work by 11:00.

pulled another orphan home '56 dove blue panel (our second)
[img] [/img]

then gave syncro da Dr. Mayo a oil and filter change
I also discovered that there was a extention in the oil filler tube which makes the adding of oil much easier.

howdy to jackbombay

What are your plans for the "new" van?

Da TOW'D Wed Oct 31, 2007 6:49 pm

have you seen the Samba split window TEE shirt?
I just need the 13 window to complete my collection like what is on the TEEs

I pushed mine out of the garage today so I could hang my new garage heater so I can work on my 80 westy this winter without freezing my lugnuts off.

In the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee, there sit 4 brand new Falken ZE-912 radials in a 215/65-15 size. (96 load index)

After work today I will take these to the wheel shop that has been working on increasing the centerbore of my "new to me" 15 Enkei wheels. Mount new tires with newly modded wheels, and HOPEFULLY, my Westy will have all new rolling stock by the end of the day!!! :P :P

Bragging pics soon to follow!!

A few days ago I had the oil changed & an expert check-up done, then filled the tank and added stabil. You can see where this is headed.

On 11/01

Aired it out.
Pulled all removable cushions for storage.
Removed all the cabinet doors.
Packed out all the camping stuff.
Carefully lowered the poptop and rolled the spiffy new 3-window tent.
Pulled out the industrial sized box of fabric softener sheets, and tucked them everywhere throughout the interior. Works for me!
Triple-checked the garage for possible pest entrances.
Tucked in the mirrors.
Covered the Westy vent.
Slid the side windows open for ventilation.
Sidled it up nice and tight in the garage.
Called the in$urance agent and switched the coverage from full road roaming to storage.

That's it, the van is tucked in against the Minnesota street salt (we're nowhere near that point) and not leaning on the checkbook (according to our budget, not a minute too soon).

Man. I'm sad.

Here is what I have done to my 87 subie syncro. This was over the last couple of weeks. I put fat mat sound deadening on the floors and walls, new black rubber floor and seat pedestals, new door panels, LT 225 75 r 15 studded tires for the coming winter (which look a little tougher), and LT mirrors. I also acquired a set of jump seats which will go in this weekend. This is one of the best threads on here. I hope it keeps going on and on.....

I replaced my water pump that was making a loud growlling noise with a new Heptu. Flushed, refilled and bled the coolant system.

While placing my GW order for the water pump I also got a new Hellia antena and 4 Mann oil filters for future changes. So after the pump was installed it was time to put in the new antena.

I was fishing the old antena cable out when I pulled on what I though was the old antena cable. It was a black casing about the same diameter as a shielded antena cable but it came up as just a cover around a 18g brown/white wire with a 1/8" contector on the end but not conected to anything. It is long enough to reach well pass the glove box and when I trace it back towards the antena mount location it actualy goes up the window stay. So what is it for?

Long story short, radio works great, the 2.1 WBX is quiet and there is one more wire going nowhere.

New wiper blades...oh the little victories. :D I can see again!

I was tipped off that someone was selling a set of doors with those mirrors on them by Mr Grizzlyblack, Thanks Grizz! sent them an email and he sold them for a very fair price considering what people are trying to get for them. It made me very happy.

BollingerRD Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:59 pm

Bought it and drove it home! I am now one proud, happy Westy owner!
