Don't know about you but if it were mine it prolly would grow on me! 8)

In that line up, it prolly has the best paint job. Next to it is a very complete and stock EZ hardtop camper, followed by the Plump Truck, a slamma-jamma-scrape'O'ramma with a severe under bite case, patina'd IRS'd DC, a stocker two tone DC with the next best paint job, and finally the well worn Strictly Vintage 2s club bus! :)

Though this pix doesn't quite show it, the front view looks like it belongs in the "BAD BUS CLUB" with its mean phat tires all around!

if monetary value wasn't an issue, would you prefer the 'pimped' bus or the bay?

sorry to say, i'd pick the bay!

If it were mine, the only thing that would grow on me would be my bank account (and as quick as possible!).

Airkewld wrote: I saw double door create a thread this morning about this but I wanted to give as much of the details of the build, the mark, the vendors that helped out, the build team, when it airs and the such.

The build happened on October 12th - October 19th

The prank was pulled on a gentleman some or most of you know hims as Hot Dog Fred.

The prank was not a theft as normal but as a TV commercial gone bad with Chip coming out and congratulating HDF.

The bus was a 1964 21 window bus with original paint (i could be wrong) some primer and rust that really couldn't be seen until it was blasted, driver and to my knowledge, it was a driver that used to pull a hot dog cart to the different VW shows, Fred, feel free to chime in and add in here.

As you know or you dont know, they build a vehicle in 8 days, from tear down to pinstripes and reveal.

The Builders on the build besides the a-team are

Geoff & Laurie from Canada Hot rods, formally of Air Speed Parts, These guys built the Hot Rod Heb (brown) that was on the cover of just about every VW mag. This is the second time that they have been on the show.

Mark from Wolfsburg West, He was a huge asset to this build, I hope he is not as stressed as he was there on friday, lol.

Pete from Airkewld, We handled the suspension portion of the build

Paul Ioozio , He is doing the Orange Smoothie Project in the T-3 section, He has also been on the show before.

More to added once i recall everything.

Companies who helped out on the build

Wagenswest www.wagenswest.com
Wolfgang International www.wolfgangint.com
Vee Dub Parts Unlimited www.vwparts.net
Buggyworld www.buggyworld.com
F & J Body Shop
Airkewld www.airkewld.com
Wolfsburg West www.wolfsburgwest.com

More to be listed as I recall

As far as pictures, I or anyone that was on the build team, can not show pictures until it airs. But we will post what we have as soon as we can.

As far as when it airs, we were told late Feb, early April. A big window, but they say depending on how the reruns do, they do not show the new ones until the other phase out.

On a personal note, Chip is very down to earth. I though he would be cocky, but I was completely wrong. Same with the build team, very cool and they all bust there ass. The build was done with all the same people Chip uses on his riddler award winners so corners were not cut as some of you probably expect. Lots of cool custom touches were done but the purist might think otherwise. I was stoked to be a part of it as its probably not going to happen again as far as a vw on the show again, but you never know. More info later. Thanks guys!

Also, I am forwarding this thread address to the producers, build team and suppliers so they can all be in the loop. see ya.

Geesh... no love for the audio guys on that build....

Sorry Bro, I was creating this thread based on what I had some kind of handle with. But you guys did one hell of a job on the bus. Clean, clean clean.

Hopefully they will all be directed to this official thread.

when i saw it at a show, i had a vision of the guy having sex with his beetles tail pipe.

Dave24 Thu Jun 12, 2008 3:15 pm

When I saw it up close and personal at OCTO, my opinion of it didn't change. I don't care how "high quality" the mods are, it's still hideous. If foose hadn't done this bus and it were an owner-done custom, it would be ripped to shreds. like all the car/cycle build shows, after they've made a name suddenly all the work they kick out is supposed to automatically be accepted as cool/top-notch/cutting edge/blah blah. I don't think thats the case with any of them, including foose. They all kick a dog from time to time. M.O..

just imagine, with unlimted skill, and unlimited $$$, the only limit being the time frame, just what you could do with a vw bus. Mine would look nothing like this...

My wife just called and said she was recording it off Dish. It's scheduled again tomorrow at 1 AM EST.

I have been watching them pull all those OG parts off, and loading it up with Bling...

They also announced a new "VW Prototype" full floor pan straight from VW?...

Chip does great work, but this was his idea of "keeping it original"

Watching the show right now lol

glowplug Thu Jun 12, 2008 5:51 pm

Jeez, how about the shameless AutoZone commercial?

zozo Thu Jun 12, 2008 6:59 pm

Just watched the show. There's a few things that I really don't care for, but then again, it's not my bus.

If you're reading this HDF, I hope you like it, since yours is the only opinion that really matters.
