I put on a set of Firestone Destinations 205 75sr 15 which are heavy duty for a SUV class tire. They fit, and are slightly more meaty then your average SUV tire.

Can you post a pic?

OK I'll have to get a pic tomorrow since it is already dark. I dont know how tall they are in inches, but they are taller vs my previous set.

6.70/15 bias ( 27 1/2" tall)on the 58 SC, The fronts do touch when bouncing around off road, specially when turning and hit a bump. Stock suspenstion

195/R/15's Mastercraft 6 ply mud and snow (27" tall) on the 56 DD off road. I thought they were discontinued but my supplier said they had over 200 more in stock (Cooper also has them)

I put the Military tires on my single cab. It's not lifted and the tires are mounted on Beetle wheels. They rub just a bit around the back part of the dog leg. I'm also running tubes with these. I'm not sure I am going to keep these though, as I'm painting a set of original crowsfoot wheels and I'm going to buy some less aggressive treaded tires.

I've ran 235-60-14s in the back with 215-60-14s up front, stock height! :P

You could put a dime between the tire and the spring plate, but NOT a nickle!

I'm sure I have a few hard copy pictures but finding them ain't gonna happen any time soon. :?

If I stumble into them I'll scan & post them. Those were really massive meats and fit without flaring the fenders. Was forced to go with a smaller tires when I got the "played out" BRMs. :(

Awesome!

Can you post the Brand & tire size? Also, where you purchased? If you are interested in selling them let me know.

Mark

PS why not keep them on? Why are you contemplating changing tires?

60freak Mon Nov 19, 2007 4:32 pm

so what is the largest 14" all-terrain/aggressive style tire you can use on a stock height bus? anyone have any suggestions? right now I am using 215/75/14 passenger style tires and would rather have the rigidity of light truck tires that have a nice aggressive tread pattern, I go rockcrawling/offroading on very rocky rough roads a lot around here (have surprised a lot of the jeep guys around here on the trails) and makes me nervous on my current el-cheapo tires.

I bought the tires and tubes from Coker tire. The tires are 7.00-15. The overall diameter is 29 1/2". Here is a link to the tires. Some people have asked if I had to do anything to get these to fit and the answer is no. Like I said, though, they rub just a little bit on the back side of the dog leg when the wheel is turned, although it's not bad.

I was thinking of getting rid of the tires and wheels, because I want to go back to stock ride height with stock bus rims. All this talk about lifted buses and big tires gets me back into the idea of a working bus that can go off the beaten path, but I think making my bus stock would be more practical. Maybe all of you will change my mind with all of these cool aggressive splits.....

Those are the exact tires I was considering. Does your sc run? Just curious how they ride in non off road conditions.

UZI Mon Nov 19, 2007 6:45 pm

i got 6.5x16s on the pest control panel. it feels like i'm rolling down the street on 4 big rolls of extra squeezably soft charmin

fflood Mon Nov 19, 2007 6:48 pm

My SC doesn't run, so I don't really know how they are on the street other than when we towed to my friends place, it seemed to ride smoother than I thought it would. That was the one thing I was curious about when I got them, but the cool looks and off road use were what I was interested in.

58deluxerag Mon Nov 19, 2007 9:11 pm

I wonder how a super swamper TSL/SX 29x8.5x15 would fit on a bus wheel with stock height. Tire probably would look goofy being all wide on such a skinny wheel.

mpribanic wrote: j.pickens wrote: Its too bad, but it appears that most of the serious heavy duty tires which will fit are only available in 14" rim sizes. I looked them up on various websites and was able to find over 15 tires in a 14" which are LT or better rated, or offroad, with diameters of 28 inches or less. The 15" tires are very limited.

John,
How tall are the Firestone bias-ply's that are on the SS Kombi?
Stock size 6.40-15's yo..

Can anyone tell me what the closest match is to 6.40 15 in a radial
I have 2 NOS 6.40 15s , old Firestone deep lugs , no checks or other problems with those so they will be going on the Kombi . Is any tire manufacturers selling 6.40 s .
Locally in BC Canada , I cannot get any now , just radials .
Someone was even telling me to put beetle tires on the bus
I want traction but more or less stock dimentions .
any sugestions ?

davebuckholts Tue Nov 20, 2007 6:20 am

Mark, you know how Sandra rolls!!

I believe the tires are 205 75 15s.
