View original topic: 1.9 Radiator hoses, part numbers

I was not able to find stock radiator hoses for my 1983 1/2 1.9L (with stock steel tubes) at my usually sources or on line so I dragged my old hoses down to my local NAPA and compared them with hoses hanging from the walls. For the feed hose I bought a NAPA #8523 hose that had appropriate bends and just needed some trimming off of each end and for the return hose I bought 28 inches of straight 1 1/4 hose, NAPA part number 605. Both hoses installed easily.

Thanks for this information. It should be a start for a 1.9 litre parts "cross reference "sticky".

On behalf of the Round-Eyes, I, too, thank you.

Last summer a Mack Tools rep showed me these steel coils they're selling which you slide over the hose that allow you to custom bend straight hoses. Kind of the same concept as a pipe bender to prevent kinks. I never used them or heard of anyone using them so I can't say if they work, but for some reason I thought I'd seen them somewhere before. I checked Mack's website but couldn't find them.

Good info Wildthings, my 1.9 thanks you.

I had same issue pin hole in rad feed hose
napa knew the part but had no stock but another small town flaps carried

Lower radiator return hose with 90 degree bend to rad
Late 85 vw-251121083H,
napa 8523, gates 21833, dayco 71459
Lemforder Radiator Hose W0133-1627614

with 8523 you have to remove at least 2" of the end with 1.5" ID so that you have 1.25" ID
the end with factory 1.25" goes to the rad trim that to your liking it will go w/o cutting but not so pretty, the other 1.5" end is the one to cut down the most

Lower radiator straight feed hose cut to 28"x1.25"
(Metal Coolant Pipe to Radiator Hose )
NAPA 605 gates 24020, dayco 76125,
lemforder W0133-1630716

Also the dayco 76125 is a heavy-duty replacement
its a molded epdm with a nylon mesh wrap

yah almost forgot I also got some
Cordura Nylon Abrasion Guard to wrap around the molded 8353from the local flaps
as it looks to me that the pin hole came from me ruff treating the clam shell & the feed hose got pinched
