My 69 came with beauty rings, but they were T-1's. So I took them off.
I woon a set of used T-34 rings on Ebay, but the seller wanted cash. Like a dummy, I sent cash and never got the rings.
So, I am still looking for T-3 rings. |

What's the difference between Beetle and Type 3 rings? I thought all 4-lug rings were the same. |

No, they are not. There is a difference due to the wheel offset. 46mm vs 34mm.
T-1 rings on T-3 wheels will not tuck in tight to the rim. |

Thanks.
Wow, I must have gotten lucky on my '67. I bought a couple replacement trim rings at a a swap meet and they matched the originals perfectly. |

yep--thank you for reminding me, Russ; I bent the hell out of a repop trim ring trying to get it to fit a Type 1 wheel a couple of years ago...
BTW, guys, the repopped trim rings from MidAmerica are really thin metal! |

Does anyone have a picture of the later style T3 rings next to the T1 rings? curious to see the difference as I am looking for a set as we speak |

The offset is the main difference.
T-1's are a flatter wheel. The T-1 trim ring will not lay against the wheel right. |

How you tell is the valve stem hole. See how Pedro's have a slot? This is due to the larger offset, where as type one has a round hole.
Anyone know of a shop that does anodizing? Just an idea I have had... |

I have some aftermarket. I need to check and see if they are type3. If they are I'll let them go. |

I like those. I'm also interested in finding out if these will indeed work. |

Those are not offset dependent. |

Due to the offset difference, when T3 rings are placed on T1 beetle rims the centre of the trims doesn't seat on the metal but is 12mm above the centre seat of the rim ( so you can't fit the hubcaps).
Beetle rings conversely sit 12mm out from the outer rim edge when placed on type 3 rims ( but the hubcaps will fit).
An easy way to check: Looking at Type 3 rings from the side the centre is visible 2-3 mm further out than the outside edge, whereas T1 sit below. |

thanks guys.. I was just wondering if anyone had some comparison shots of the later type 3 rings. (4 lug).
I am having difficultly determining if any of the classifieds are the correct ones. I do have T3 rims so I want the right rings.
thanks!
so if I am looking at these two pictures.. and making an educated guess...
Picture 1: this looks to be a correct T3/Ghia trim ring ... you can see that it fits snug and the valve stem seems to come close to the center most point of the slot
Now in this color picture.. I am guessing these are likely bug or aftermarket trim rings... they dont appear to be too tight, and you can see the valve stem is nearly resting on the outermost portion of the hole.
