| I have 4 of the original wheels from my kombi that was produced June 17th of '53. They are all Lemmerz, welded, no divot, and dated 2/53. My spare that I picked up is a 1/54 Lemmerz that is welded with no divot. Anyone have a 2/53 Lemmerz, welded with no divot in good shape that they want to trade for my 1/54? |

| When did v.w. stop making the 16s .Was it in 55 and do they have to be stamped v.w. I have been looking at some, but they mite be opel. The stamping on them says 4.50x16 not 3.50x16 thanks |

They made replacements past 1955 but 16s stopped with Barndoor production.
Unless I am remembering wrong, my 1/55 16s on my 2/55 Bus don't have a VW stamp, they just say Lemmerz and the size and have a couple other unknown stamps.
4.50x16 is not for a VW.
Do they look the same? Those might be useful if you want to use 16" radial tires. |

That is true, but if they are opel, then the diameter where the hubcap goes on, is slightly smaller. VW hubcaps wil NOT fit on these wheels !!! |

I might have missed it in this thread, but are 16" Barndoor wheels the same as Beetle? That was part of the original question brought up.
TIA |

The widths are different.
Barndoor = 3.50x16
Beetle = 3.00x16 |

Hi,
I was going through the 16's today and found an odd 3,50x16 KPZ rim. Its rivited and the vw hubcap fits perfectly. It came with other Barndoor wheels but has a slightly different offset then the other later rims. It looks more like a bug 16" offset but its denfinetly a 3,50. Its dated either 1/50 or 11/50, kinda hard to tell.
Does anybody have an idea whats up with that rim?
Thanks! :) |

the size would also be right for a 356 wheel? do you have any pictures of the wheel? |

| Sorry, no pics right now. But it looks exactly like an 3,00x16 bug wheel. No slots or anything else. |

the color makes it look military surplus. BD correct specs.
In any case, please do save the Firestone Phoenix. gorgeous tire and worth saving for display. out of production for 50 yrs.
it seems as if it is a 5.00-16 though, which would be the split beetle size.
interesting that the wheel rim has what looks to be the deep square indentation at the valve, meaning it is made for use with tubeless tires. I think og BD era wheels just had a shallow recess for properly seating the tube's valve stem. |

Thanks for the input.
The wheel will be kept untouched; the tyre is indeed 5.00-16
@bubba: the pony symbol is a reference to the Westfalia logo? ...means you have more information, please? |
