What's the most, weight wise, that you've ever hauled in your SC or DC?

EverettB Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:18 pm

White dwarf star. Weight - 3x10^23 metric tons

Seriously though, that '63 has over 3000 lbs. in it, mostly concrete. I did a slightly smaller load after that.

I have done over 1 ton in my '54.

Hehe, nerdiness.

I thought maybe a neutron star would weigh more..

awesome to hear- how did it run when you had that weight in it, and what engine?

campingbox Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:42 pm

I hauled 2400 lbs in my widebed to the dump once.
I hauled 4000 lbs in Clara's 15-window 700 miles home once......it drove better than the truck.
I think the weight distribution on a panelvan is better.
The heaviest load was in the '58 panel, that was certainly 4000+.

I think that was at least 5 engines and at least 3 trannys, in addition to the rest of the crap you can see.

Greg, that is one way to lower a bus. 8)

I love those pics , that is the real test of German engineering .
How many miles did you travel with that load , and how did it drive ?

thom Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:46 am

Yeah, it's a fat chick, but I hauled 1-1/2 yards of gravel in my SC - 8 times.

thom Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:48 am

A load of insulation in my panel - I was tempted to cut the bands, but then I'd never get it out...

thom Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:49 am

2000+lbs of pavers

thom Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:52 am

23 sheets of 4x10 T1-11 siding

40hp. Ran fine but it took a little longer to stop. There is a small hill on the way to the dump with a stop light at the bottom. It turned red when I was halfway down and I coasted through most of the intersection while standing on the brake pedal.

It was a mile, maybe two. Not as much as three.
Scraped the tailpipe tip.
It was lowered about 7 inches, 7 1/2"?
If the wood was all perfectly dry, it would have been lighter.

Clara Mon Jan 21, 2008 11:10 am

This doghouse wasn't superheavy, but it looks funny in the back of the truck. I was taking it to a friend's house.

UZI Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:13 pm

this was a lot heavier that it looks

after a morning at the junkyard.

those were the days. look at all those seats.

Touch Nicks Thing Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:36 pm

2 loader scoops of wet mulch, probably around 3000 lbs? Truck didn't like stopping, at all, pretty much rolled through all the stop signs. Also, loaded the bed full of snow once, nice dome up to the cab roof. That shit was really heavy.

Culito Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:06 pm

I think mine used to haul leaky lead-acid batteries....

d-rick Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:14 pm

Hauled a lot of gravel this summer ,most trips I got 1 scoop ,Made one trip with 2 scoops in the back that was pretty heavy

stingah2 Mon Jan 21, 2008 7:06 pm

I've put alot of weight in a panel and a single cab. Don't know the amount but I really like the way they handle with weight. Takes the bouncy edge off and makes the reduction boxes really happy.
