Great work with your idea and design - you seemed to have nailed it and this looks far more sturdier than the original continental support bracket. This looks to be the answer I've been looking for. I bought the kit from NLAVW, but I am not excited about their design for the pillow board. The NLAVW kit looks sturdy with the side rails, but the pillow board needs to be removed each time and has to be stowed down below somewhere when not in use (94 cm x 48 cm). I'd like to use the contents of the kit, but go with your design for the front pillow board so it can be hinged, etc. like the original continental pillow board style.
Looks like you must loosen the turn bolt enough to allow room for the padding on the aluminum support to clear the roof ribs during normal driving mode? I don't suppose to have rough radii measurements on that angle aluminum piece?
Great work with your idea and design.
The plastic spacer allows the support to swing out with room for the foam strip on it. I don’t think the foam survived this years camping season. But the upper bed works great for me or the wife to sleep on . It has a 3” memory foam mattress we put up there |

I have installed the NLA kit, and was very disappointed with the pillow part that needed to be stored and was very not practical. So i convert it to the original Westphalia design
Cut the long inox bar and create the pillow part, then put hinges and hardware, a bit of upholstery and voila
I have tested the pillow part with all my weight, and two kids only on this part, and the thing didn't move a bit, so good enough for me :D |

That right there is the problem, it doesn’t fit properly on an early bay

Thanks for the info. I see exactly what you are talking about how that original continental pillow board bracket doesn't fit the early bay. I am definitely going to mimic your design. Thanks again for sharing. |

The pillow-board of the genuine, factory-fitted Westfalia Continental elevating-roof bed, is hinged to the main bed-board by two hinges.
