That's why I say enforcement at the pump. Here, you pay your penalty up front. If the penalty was on a daily basis, folks would then notice.

Interestingly, here in the states, you can get a federal license and build your own still to brew your own ethanol. Of course, with a little further distillation, you've made corn whiskey. I'd call it a secondary revenue stream. The government calls it "moon-shining". :?

John, did something happen in the past 9 months? I was in Glasgow last April and we were paying $7.20 per gallon.

Looks like here in Alaska the state maybe giving us $1000.00 to help with the high cost of fuel.That is on top of the $1,685.. every one got in Oct..Its called the PFD. So if I add this together I did not pay very much for Fuel last year for my daily drivers/ Diesiel Motorhome/Beechcraft Bonanza/VWS Pretty Fucking cool I say

Yes...April last year WAS "The Good Old Days." :(

i bought my very first gallon of petrol in glasgow, it was less than 2 shillings then. :wink:

I can remember as a kid, riding my bike to the corner store with a one gallon gas can for the lawn mower. I would take $.65, get a gallon of gas and a candy bar. At that time the gas was $.37 per gallon. :cry:

the UK£ was worth $2.40 in the 60's and there were 240 pennies to a £ then. 12 pennies = 1 shilling, so my gas was 24 cents for a UK gallon which is bigger than the american one. 8)

gas price here has dropped about 6 €urocents/litre in the last few weeks. :D

To sort of tie this up to our love of VW bus and cars
Flat fours are the most ideal configuration for converting to an alternative fuel.
something to do with the top end lubrication

From my own experience of converting to Propane (LPG)
the engine runs smoother and quieter with no loss of power or distance from a full tank
I have even seen Turbo splits on Propane

I found that the money saved from the cheaper fuel paid for the conversion within 5000 miles.but it helps living in "green" land as there is a massive difference in gasoline and Propane price .

the only thing governments are good at is contradicting them selfs. Here in Norway its all about being green, but running an alternative fuel wont really benefit you. You can run on used veggie oil only because of goodwill, its actually hazardous waste(!) and therefore illegal to dispose of yourself. Luckily the police won't care. Now we are gelling a new tax system for cars, fuel gusslers get more expensive and the cleaner ones get cheaper. Trouble is for the cheapest car i can possibly get new i could get somewhere between 5 and 10 vanagons td's and just a little bit higher fuel consumption, or one vanagon and a few years supply of fuel... easy choice isn't it? I will get a vanagon for my first car, probably a diesel, and since i do care a little about the environment i would very much like to install a particle filter, but gyess what? That costs nearly as much as the vanagon itself and i wont get any credit from the government at all.
I guess what i'm tying to say is i would very much like to go green, trouble is i just cant afford it. And the government have clearly decided that if not to help me doing so. And still they are all about being green and stuff :roll:

I agree. I've worked in the auto repair field for years, and they keep bitching about gas prices, but yet they keep buying gas guzzlers. It's a status thing....not unlike comparing penises. :lol:
