How many different ways have people spelled Karmann Ghia in classified ads over the years?

I read an ad in the local paper 3 times before I even knew what was for sale.

It said, "For Sale Carmendia, some rust, runs, needs work"

There is a wide variety of spellings on this site as well

There's a VW club called "Common Gear" - based on a mis-spelling.

Richard Troy once told a story about going to a junkyard and finding some parts labeled "car-mo-gee" (or thereabouts)

Most common:

Carmen Gia
Karma Gia
Karmen Ghia
Karman Ghia

etc...but "Carmendia" is pretty good.

My insurance company referred to it as a "Volkswagon" "Carmagia" on some of the initial paperwork.

Had to explain that it was not "The People's Radio Flyer".

When I first called the insurance company to add the Karmann Ghia, I had to spell it three times, then the insurance person came back with "Oh, I see it now, that's the truck they make!"

I have seen several posts in our forum with the mis-spelled "Kharmann Ghia."

The letter "H" is always inserted.

LOL

Or the "h" is just moved, as in Kharmann Gia.

And along these lines, whenever there is an ad posted, there is inevitabley a picture of the Karmann Ghia script on the decklid. I've especially noticed this on the big auction site.

I've seen
Carmann
Carman
Karman
Karmen

Not to many misspellings of Ghia.

No matter how many times I spell it out, if they havn't heard of it, they will spell it wrong.

I always crack up when I see a Beetle convertible (body by Karmann) advertised on Craigslist as a "Karmann edition".

Isn't there a Mel Brooks movie with a chick called Carmen Ghia?

Some old timers jokingly call it the Karmann Diahrea and Karmann Pia

Ressurecting the thread because I saw the film tonight. It's "The Producers" (1968) and "Carmen Ghia" is the effeminate director's assistant, played by Andréas Voutsinas.

It's spelled "Volkswagon" on the TITLE to my car. The space for "model" is left blank... apparently they didn't even want to attempt that one...

that drives me NUTS. and usually, there's a quote like "totally rare KHARMAN edition BUG. VERY FEW OF THESE MADE" like it was some kind of Levis edition Gremlin or Bill Blass Mark V.
