View original topic: My first 'mechanical' issue with the Squareback...

Some of you may remember I bought a 71 Squareback a couple of months ago. Since then the car has been sitting around without much getting done since we're in the process of buying a house (moving in 3 weeks).

I've done a couple of things, lowered it, new tires, ripped out old carpet, and some small body work (mostly sanding).

I took it for a drive last night just to get the fluids going, left me stranded a few blocks away from home. It had spark and turned over, just no fuel and I couldn't hear the pump "clicking" so I grabbed a flashlight and checked out the relay and fuses. Turns out it was a fuse under the dash, the first from the right.

Figured I would share, it was exciting to actually have something go wrong, even if it was so small, and actually be able to fix it in a parking lot. :D

I second that! There will come the day when you will want to set it on fire, and then you don't because you came to your senses. That and you don't have any money left for gas or a lighter cause you spent it on parts.

LOL... I hear ya. Fortunately the Squareback isn't my daily driver or main project. So I'm being more patient with it than I ever have with any other car... I really can't wait to move and start working on it so I can avoid small things like this in the future.
