I have a pair of peep mirrors and I was wondering if anybody here had installed any on their bugs. I just want to know how much cutting is needed. Pictures would help alot. I just dont want to cut more than i have to. I wish i didnt have to cut at all actually... It's a 66 beetle by the way. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

you might want to post a picture of your type of peep mirrors. Whare are you looking to cut? And why do you want to cut just to put on peep mirrors. With the options that are out there, you shouldn't really need to be cutting in order to install those mirrors. Personally, the stock mirrors, or swan neck mirrors, or fender mount mirrors are all good options. Those peep mirrors allow even less rear visibility. Post some pictures of what you intend to do if you are intent on putting these little mirrors on .

I bought a "peep" mirror for the passenger side, too. It was advertized as being "for VW Beetle", so I was very disappointed when it arrived and I couldn't figure out a way to mount the damn thing without cutting the door! :evil:

So far it's in a box under the bench. I'd still like to hang it, if it can be done without cutting....

Don't do it! I had them on my old '66. They had to cut a notch in the top of the door that instantly started to rust. You can't see anything out of them. I got tired of them really quick. So when the passenger side finally fell off I through the drivers side away and put on stock mirrors, and then I was happy again. :D

What cutting for peeps :-s ? Also, peeps serve no function, other that a unique "look". You cannot see a thing out of them and cannot keep them adjusted if you tried. They are simply a novelty. If that's all you want, then, no problem.

Check the edge of a Beetle door....no way to clamp onto it without cutting off the "lip".

It's not so much that I wanted peep mirrors, although I think the "hot rod" tradition of them is cool....it's that I want a passenger side mirror. I tried the stock type with the longer arm, and I can't even SEE the mirror, let alone see out of it!

I mean it....I can't even see the stupid thing! :P

Too bad you have to cut the car.... especially when you won't be happy with the visiblity (or lack thereof) provided by peeps.

Granted, the original Hagus pear shaped mirror on my '67 and round 101 on my '65 are not so great, but I can adjust them to see behind me a little. Honestly, I have grown accustomed to just turning around and looking beside or behind me :? . Archaic, yes. But I does work :wink:

when they put mirrors on the beetle, they weren't thinking of visibility, they were thinking something else apparently, cause you can't see a damn thing in them, they are for looks.

Even with the peeps you won't be able to see anything. Do you see the stupid angle of the mirror on my passenger side? Whoever was riding shotgun just adjusted it so they could see out of it. and even they had a hard time with it.

there is an adapter to mount peep mirrors on classic bug without cutting anything.. cip1 has them and pic installed on door.

My stock 101 mirror works just fine, good side visibility with it. Nice thing is the Bug has good visibility even without the side mirrors, so long as you turn your neck. Modern cars are crap for visibility, high trunks, high set windows, and fat roof posts. I hate modern cars, designed without visibility in mind, lots of blind spots, no wonder they are installing rear cameras in them.
I remember back in the day car makers advertising the safety of great visibility from big windows, thin roof posts.
Heck many modern cars have fake windows, the glass is large on the outside giving the appearance of big windows, but the glass overlaps the roof posts, and is painted black over that area. get inside and you find the windows are much smaller than what is seen on the outside. The windows nowadays are so small, they need to fake them to make the car look right from the outside. Riding in some modern cars is like being in a cave with a tiny entrance.
