1966 and 1967 only trim rings. Kent knows this as does air cooled (richard m.)

did the welds break joining the metal tubes? the aluminum is to hold heat in heat risers journey of heated air. you can heat and re-fuse the crack if careful. but sometimes the welds crack.

Seems like the only problem (Other than it being clogged) is the crack along the back...Nothing else seems seperated - no welds broken that i can see...

These pictures will give you and idea of the breather pipe arrangement to the tin. The correct pipe will go straight down and not have the bend on the lower portion of the pipe.

thank you...it seems the PO was "stuck" in 68...the engine is a 67 for sure though...I've got all the correct tins now so I guess I'll find a correct oil filler...
I was pulling my hair out trying to find an oil leak and the "elbowed" road draft tube was dripping oil on the bottom head tin and dripping it out toward the front (front is front) of the engine... :roll:

Is that a rubber seal where the tube goes through the tin?

part number 111 115 491 and the water release rubber at bottom of tube is 311 115 541

I just received the "correct" oil filler tube from a Samba member - We agreed it was a 67 bug 1500 oil filler...The problem is it looks just like the one i need to replace (elbow at bottom)...(not like the one in the ad that I thought i was buying - straight tube)

So - before i pull my hair out - Should my road draft tube have an elbow at the bottom or be straight? I have the elbow tube(hitting the tin) and thought I was buying the straight tube type..

The tube is straight like in the picture I sent, no elbow. The picture I sent is what you need in order for the tin fit right. It is hard to find the right stuff sometimes but it will pay off with you having the peace of mind that is correct. When you start looking for the 67 only stuff you will have even more fun. Hang in there. :wink:

Thanks - Just wanted to make sure before I contacted the seller...I thought your picture was Straight but wanted to double check before I contacted the seller and get my duckies back (or the correct filler)...

That is a clean engine compartment!!! I should have the pieces you sent tomorrow, I can't wait to install them and update pics. I really owe you!!!!!!!!!!!! I really miss my '67, it was by far my favorite VW. I'll have to wait to see if my new one can take that title some day.
