Hey, anyone know what happened to Charles Manson's BD?
I was just watching a special on him on the history channel, and it showed his bus a few times. Just wondering if anyone knew what happened to it, as it'd really be a neat find/piece of history, even if it isn't a good one. |

hey ConcreteBalloon, are you sure it was a REAL barndoor? and not a '55-'67 bus?? I know a bit of his story and Tate's murder, but not enough to know anything on his (or friends) cars... ... the things I could find on him and VW's where some facts as '...stolen VW reported', 'flat bed truck with 2 or 3 VW engines' and '...dune buggie' (Manson had some Dune Buggies), but also: '...The titles "Big Black Bus" and "The Family Jams" are both Manson-related: the Family drove a black (VW) bus...' so yes, a black VW bus, but what year was it, have you (or anyone else) got a picture of that black bus, or another bus that Manson drove back then...? (on other pages, I saw they had a black SCHOOLbus...? And one of the people that surrounded him (from the Family?) had a VW: 'Vehicles: 61 VW micro bus, Grey #76255 D.' ...and the last VW bus thing, is one that was owned by Gary Hinman, also killed by the Family as I could read, and his bus was later driven by another follower of Manson...: '...Charlie and Bruce drove back to the Spahn ranch. Bobby, Susan, and Mary returned two days later driving Hinman’s VW bus '... and as I found, Manson’s version of these events, as told to Nuel Emmons: '...…I halfway expected to see Gary with them. When he wasn’t, I knew, without asking, without being told, that he would not be visiting anyone—ever.
…[Bobby said to Charlie] "Gary’s dead." According to [Bobby’s] account, Gary had started to scream to attract some help, and to quiet the screams, Bobby stabbed him. Bobby handed me the titles to Gary’s vehicles, saying, "This is the only thing of value we could come up with." I wasn’t shocked at Gary’s death, but I sensed a slight increase in my heartbeat as my mind flashed on, "That’s two now." [Hinman and Crowe] I’m sure people would expect me to affected differently, but emotions aren’t controlled by what other people think. My only words to Bobby were, "Where’s the other car?" He replied, "It’s still at the house." So we went to Gary’s house and brought the other car to the ranch.
...that's all for the moment, if anyone knows more on the bus(ses?) to help ConcreteBalloon with his question...? (even if it's NOT a BD bus?)... |

well, it might not have been his bus on the documentary. But the one shown had the huge engine hatch, tiny brake lights and definitely looked like a BD. It only showed the back, so I can't be sure. Anyway, I just assumed it was a bus like his. It was red/ chestnut brown (I think, it was black and white video)
Well, I just thought it'd really be a fascinating piece of history; both vw history and the big picture. |

This is slightly irrelevant, but I'd want to be buried in my bus...
But then I'd be taking another bus out of the world. And that's not cool. |

I don't want to hijack this thread either...but Dr. Death aka Jack Kevorkian prefered his black bay window tin top as his work vehicle....anyone remember those pics? moohahaha
just found this..."Janet Adkins, a 54 year old Portland, Oregon woman with Alzheimer's disease, pushed the button on a "suicide machine" developed by Dr. Jack Kevorkian, causing her death. The assisted suicide took place in the back of Dr. Kevorkian's 1968 Volkswagen van, in Groveland Oaks Park, Michigan." |

I though we should reflect on some of Charles more personable traits while the literature experts continue digging for the images. In this video, Manson shows significant sophistication:

On a side note and a bit off topic, the guy I bought my bus from (last year) is a teacher at Corcoran State Prison where Manson is currently housed. He drove the bus to work there everyday. And he was also going to have some of the bodywork done by the inmates there in the prison vocational training section until they discontinued the program.
Maybe Charlie looked out his cell window and saw the bus in the parking lot and remembered the good old days.
Can't wait for the day that he burns in hell for all the pain he caused. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv5Uf3P3fQw No.."Manson" is a documentary made in the early 70's with footage from Spahn's movie ranch in Chatsworth. It is rare and hard to get ahold of I only have it on video. The prosecutor Bugliosi narrates a lot of it. |
