A bus off? I was joking around at the SBS site and said I would sell 200 tickets for $60ea for my bus. Now would that be legal? I mean think about it I would get the money without all the hassle of answering a ton of e-mails and taking tons of pics.

I mean a 1 in 200 chance to own a bus for $60 is a great deal.

crofty Thu Jun 26, 2008 2:35 pm

and what if you don't sell 200?

blue72beetle Thu Jun 26, 2008 2:45 pm

I think most states have very strict laws regarding raffles. I know my RC Airplane club has to jump through hoops to have a raffle every years.

Might want to really look deep into it if you actually do it. Don't want to lose your bus and all your raffle money!

i thought we couldnt say WAFFLE anymore

my65vert Thu Jun 26, 2008 3:05 pm

you would need to sell 300 tickets and use the proceeds from the extra 100 tickets to give to a charity in the name of the SBS to make it legal.

Ace Thu Jun 26, 2008 3:10 pm

Apparently it's ok with EV so go for it. No charities seem to be needed.

Then I refund the money. I'm sure 200 tickets would be easy to sell, even for a lowered bus. :P

Mike maybe I can sell them for $80ea and 20 of that will go to charity.

Fuck it, sell however many tickets you sell and hold the raffle. Just make sure YOU buy the winning ticket.

Make it a monthly event.

Most raffles are illegal - look into it.

I think you would have a high likelihood of being sued.

Fish Thu Jun 26, 2008 5:06 pm

Way back in the day factor workers figured out they could make more money raffling of their paychecks, but big brother didn't like it so they made ..... EverettB wrote: Most raffles are illegal - look into it.

Why not set up an organization where you get 5 guys to "invest" the $20, then each go out and recruit another 5 people and send the money up the chain of command. Then these 25 guys recruit 5 people each, and so on.

By the time you are finished you will be a millionaire.

guess your ESP isn't working like you thought.

No one wins raffles anyways...

DubStyle Fri Jun 27, 2008 8:44 am

Oh just so you know... it was a joke, but I thought I'd ask. I guess if I was donating all the proceeds to a good cause it would work. Still good for a laugh. BTW I found a buyer and he seems pretty cool. Don't think I'll see it up for sale here for a LOOOOOOONG time! I could be wrong, but like I was told "The right buyer will come along and you'll know it!" 8)

No Ev speaks for himself. I can only base it off other raffles that have already been allowed to occur on this site. Have you not been paying attention?

EverettB Fri Jun 27, 2008 10:19 am

Yes, in general I allow raffles on the site.
The site cannot police the legalities of every advertisement.
The site cannot research every raffle to see if it's legal and frankly I don't care unless it involves fraud of some sort.

From talking with someone who does a legal raffle, it is VERY difficult to do a legal raffle unless you are a non-profit entity like a Church or charity.

Send $1. 8)

beetleboy58 Fri Jun 27, 2008 7:36 pm

By the end of the year 1 in 4 Samba ads will be raffles, if they appear at the current pace!
