A bus off? I was joking around at the SBS site and said I would sell 200 tickets for $60ea for my bus. Now would that be legal? I mean think about it I would get the money without all the hassle of answering a ton of e-mails and taking tons of pics.
I mean a 1 in 200 chance to own a bus for $60 is a great deal. |

I think most states have very strict laws regarding raffles. I know my RC Airplane club has to jump through hoops to have a raffle every years.
Might want to really look deep into it if you actually do it. Don't want to lose your bus and all your raffle money! |

you would need to sell 300 tickets and use the proceeds from the extra 100 tickets to give to a charity in the name of the SBS to make it legal. |

Apparently it's ok with EV so go for it. No charities seem to be needed. |

Then I refund the money. I'm sure 200 tickets would be easy to sell, even for a lowered bus. :P
Mike maybe I can sell them for $80ea and 20 of that will go to charity. |

Fuck it, sell however many tickets you sell and hold the raffle. Just make sure YOU buy the winning ticket.
Make it a monthly event. |

Most raffles are illegal - look into it.
I think you would have a high likelihood of being sued. |

Way back in the day factor workers figured out they could make more money raffling of their paychecks, but big brother didn't like it so they made ..... EverettB wrote: Most raffles are illegal - look into it.

Why not set up an organization where you get 5 guys to "invest" the $20, then each go out and recruit another 5 people and send the money up the chain of command. Then these 25 guys recruit 5 people each, and so on.
By the time you are finished you will be a millionaire. |

Oh just so you know... it was a joke, but I thought I'd ask. I guess if I was donating all the proceeds to a good cause it would work. Still good for a laugh. BTW I found a buyer and he seems pretty cool. Don't think I'll see it up for sale here for a LOOOOOOONG time! I could be wrong, but like I was told "The right buyer will come along and you'll know it!" 8) |

No Ev speaks for himself. I can only base it off other raffles that have already been allowed to occur on this site. Have you not been paying attention? |

Yes, in general I allow raffles on the site.
The site cannot police the legalities of every advertisement.
The site cannot research every raffle to see if it's legal and frankly I don't care unless it involves fraud of some sort.
From talking with someone who does a legal raffle, it is VERY difficult to do a legal raffle unless you are a non-profit entity like a Church or charity. |

By the end of the year 1 in 4 Samba ads will be raffles, if they appear at the current pace! |
