When I was at school out in the NRV there back in 97-01, I had a 74 Westy, and saw an add on the the samba in '99 from a guy in Pulaski that said he had a Adventurewagen High top for $100.

My buddy and I went over this guy's house and he told me I could take the top and anything else I could fit in my Bus for $100. I asked him what he had, and he directed me to drive around his property as there were VW's scattered all over the place on the 10 acres...

So we drove along this grass path and sure enough every so often a van or beetle would come up, Jeff and I would grab some things, stuff it in the van, and move on....

Nice 73-79 Bumper over-riders, impact strips, dometic fridge, dual webber 36's, mosquito screens, Westy plaid seats and cushions, pre 72 camp stool,etc...

we packed it full, and strapped the top to the van, paid the guy, and drove back really slow the 14 miles or so to Blacksburg...

Tried to call the guy a month later and his phone was disconnected... I wonder if it is maybe the same guy? If not, Pulaski is to Vw vans what Manassas, Va is to Bugs...

was just wonderin'...

i have a feeling i'm not the only one to email the owner(s) using the form on the 'Contact' page at www.vuhvanagon.com

has anyone heard back from them?

dixoncj Tue Dec 02, 2008 6:11 pm

I heard back from the guy on a middle single seat for my westy a few days after posting a note to them. A bit too pricey, but he seemed mighty cordial. I put in another query coupla days ago about some mirrors - no word back yet.

I emailed him about tan corduroy seats right after his web address was posted here, but I haven't heard back yet.
I figured he got a deluge of emails from the likes of us, so I'm not expecting an answer very soon.

good thread, i remember riding by that place a few years back. from what i remember, it looked less like the pictures and more like an old vw salvage yard back then.
i may have to take a trip up there one weekend, i need some parts and he is only a couple hours away from me...

True, true.

I was shopping for parts! Really!

I guess I was hoping that If I stared at it long enough, somehow it would magically appear in the back yard. That never seemed to work with the Christie Brinkley poster in my room as a kid, but maybe it's still too soon to tell! I will definately let you know if either one turns up!

>Man, I hope I don't go blind!<

VuhVanagon's site is all Flash, which makes it completely unreadable by search engines...hence the absence of it in search results. Flash is great, but Flash-only sites have a way to go being search-engine friendly! Adobe is working on that...

Just emailed him through the site asking about rear replacement bumper options. Who can tell if their email 'widget' even works! I may just try to call this weekend and see if I can get through.

Kinda far for a bumper but would really like to get my rear one replaced...

Here's the update. Let's keep it in the proper thread.

Most of the charges against a Pulaski man charged with selling Volkswagen vans without a motor vehicle dealer's license have been dismissed.
______ faced 13 misdemeanors, including selling cars without a motor vehicle dealer's license, offering vehicle parts for sale while not being a licensed salvage dealer, having a vehicle graveyard by possessing five or more inoperable vehicles and possessing nine open titles with no buyer or seller listed.

The charges were brought by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle's Law Enforcement Services, which began investigating _______'s operation in October after getting complaints from residents and other vehicle dealers, a DMV spokeswoman has said.

________ is the owner of VuhVanagon at 1001 Lee Highway and, according to DMV, has at least 163 Volkswagen vans.

At a hearing Tuesday in Pulaski County General District Court, _______ was given three months to comply with some regulations, a court official said. A new hearing on the charges of unlawfully selling a motor vehicle and failing to obtain a title was set for April 20.

______ was found not guilty of operating a junkyard.

The remaining 10 charges -- nine counts of possessing open titles and one count of working as a vehicle salvage without a license -- were dismissed Tuesday.

I'm glad a lot of those charges were dropped. Who cares if he's selling vehicles with open titles. Nobodies driving them. Who cares if he's selling parts with out a salvage license. People do it every day on here, and on craigslist. In my opinion, and everybody elses on this forum, hes a good man doing a good thing, keeping the rest of us with these old vehicles on the road.

On a side note, AT LEAST 163 VW VANS! WOW! What a lucky guy.

Thanks for the redirect PDX. Was multitasking during a break. Poorly, obviously!

That is just money in the bank for that guy. Where I live on the Central Coast in Cali there is a guy that has a VW haven yard and he is never there. He sells pretty much online. I have found him in the community business section. I would love to have that business. Its pure torture going out there and wanting to spend a day just playing in that yard. Its like a kid going to a park and the park is closed.

The junkyard by me only has 3 vanagons, and I feel the same way. I can't help myself.
