So there is another scam going around Craigslist right now, for a 54 Barndoor full-restored for 5K. We even got an e-mail reply from the seller with a link to photos...
http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e119/lindaburkeal/vw/
Can someone explain to me the story behind these scams? What's the point? Just to waste someones time? And how do they get flagged for removal so quickly? I mean, is it because the price is so ridiculously low? My wife and I are trying to help out son get a VW Bus so we are new to the VW Bus scene...
Thanks for any info!!! |

The point is dumb people think they can buy a $30,000 Bus for $3000 so they send them a deposit to hold the Bus. They lose the deposit and the scammer gets free money.
They get flagged for removal because the scammers often use Buses that are "known" by VW people. Or they use the same Bus over and over. |

here is a response from the seller.
As I told you in my first e-mail, I lost my father in an accident 4 months ago and I was badly injured. I have problems with my hearing and most of the time have headaches. I'm in Santa Monica now for treatment. Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with Alfa Movers http://www.alfamv.com so my presence isn't necessary. The bus and all the papers (title,etc..) are in their possession ready for delivery. The shipping company will hold the payment until it is delivered and inspected. You will have 3 days to test and inspect it. If it's not as described or if the title is not clear or whatever problem you may find and we can't work it out, the bus will be returned and your payment will be refunded. If you accept it, the papers will be signed and notorized, and they will release the funds to me.
Quite simple and fast. So if you want to purchase the bus please go to http://www.alfamv.com/search.php and follow the instructions.
Regards,
Linda Burke [email protected]
the bus is listed with alfa movers but if it looks like a rat and smells like a rat, then?
this was a craigslist ad placed in seattle btw. |

linda burke aka scamer on craigs list.... sucks large.... well you know......
I knew it was bs.....everyone hopes to find something like this :( and its for real....oh well
heres what they emailed me:
I'm really sorry for this late reply but I've been very busy lately and
away from a computer. The bus is in excellent running and body
condition, no flaws on it or any other mechanical problems. It has a
clear title and it will be signed and notarized on your name as soon as
the payment will be completed. This was my father's bus who passed away
4 months ago and it only brings me bad memories. I only hope to find a
good home for it and to be taken care of like my father did. I believe
$5,000.00(not negotiable) with all shipping fees anywhere in the
continental US included is more than a fair price.
I will tell you a few words about it. 1954 Volkswagen Barndoor with an
manual transmission it is in immaculate condition with only 23k miles,
rust free, no scratch and hasn't been involved in any accident. The
engine runs very well. The interior looks great (never smoked in). This
bus needs nothing.
I want this transaction to go smoothly enough as I am caught in the
middle of some very important events and have little time at my
disposal. I already have tons of emails so I hope you understand that I
need to sort them out. I will take in consideration only those buyers
who are really interested in buying the bus, to be sure that I don't
waste my time with endless discussions. This way, I shall be assured of
the serious intentions.
For more pictures click in the link below:

So if you are interested please email me back and we'll go from there.

Linda Burke |

DONT USE ALFA MOVERS!!!!! SCAM !!!!!
Hey, I just got these guys knocked off the net with the Secret Service. They post fake car sales on Craig's list and others. How it worked, a fake seller makes a post, again whith NO Phone or physicall address for you to see the car. Then, give you some reason why they handed the car over to Alfa Movers (who by the way had a full blown Website that looked legit, even had online chat!). Well you go out to Alfa Mover webstite (Alfamw.com, now down), type in the fake seller's email address, and bingo, they find a record for the car and then ask you a ton of info, and generate a real looking invoice. The RED FLAG for me was the they asked for a wire transfer from my checking to an Anotonia Santos, and individual's acocunt NOT IN ANY WAY associated with a company. Bank of America said to be very cautious, that's when I went on line with the fake site's online support and told them they would be busted pretty soon... I sent them a copy of the fake invoice, fake chat, and the knuckle head that the money was to be depostied in, called the Sercret Service, had the site down in 2 days!!!. |
