The only thing Ca. has going for it is the year round weather...nothing else.

Ouch! I was born and raised in San Diego and have the exact opposite view. California is a huge state, good parts and bad. I guess it's where you came up.

No, I was born and raised in Huntington Beach. I can tell you for certain it's not remotely close to what it used to be. Not a good place to start/raise a family either, perhaps twenty+ years ago but not these days. It's gone to the birds.

My newest installment of "Bays on the Way"

I went into town trying to track down some brake parts for the buggy I am building and took my camera. Here is what I found:

I have been meaning to stop by this guy's house, this bus has been in the backyard and hasn't moved in a long time, looks nice though:

Saw this one for sale at a local mechanic, its a '75 transporter and they want $6000 for it

At another shop:

Some guy's backyard:

At one of the local aircooled VW boneyards:

Saw this one for sale, its a '78 for $1500, not bad shape either:

Along side the road riv:

I was driving and this bus caught my eye in an alley, it obviously hasn't moved in a while but is a champagne but painted:

Then as I was leaving, this was in front of the same house:

I have been just missing this bus for a while now, it appears to be a Riviera Vista top but has Westy interior, the owners were not around:

Saw all this in about 2 hrs.

I see a number of these buses on my way to work every morning.

Where is that bone yard?

Have you seen the Pepto Pink Westy yet? I see it on the side streets of Port Angeles once in a while. It will burn your retinas.

Wow you guys got a ton up your way! Great Pictures calebmelvin, I especially like this one

Wow! That'd be so uncommon out here in KY. It's rare to see them rusting away, let alone driving.

I was just back in your neck of the woods visiting relatives in Danville & Lexington. Talk about boonies  . I don't think I saw one bus.

calebmelvin sure hit it right. There's still a lot of baywindows between Seattle & the Canadian border. Must have seen 25+ bays, just on a day trip from Ferndale to Mt. Baker recently, and quite a few of those were running down the road or hanging out in public parking lots, obviously in daily use. True SUVs; just before their time!(Chrysler hadn't yet invented the minivan!)

The lovely beach side town of Cardiff offers these fine specimens today:

Today was a very rare day. I had to go to Costco to buy stuff for work and I saw 2 Bays..right across the street from each other! Plus, they were both in good shape!

One late bay passenger bus, fresh maroon and white paint. The other was a white Riviera camper, very shiny.

I dont roll with a camera, so no pics, but I wanted to share anyways!

mackmix Tue Aug 19, 2008 6:37 pm

Oh, EZ Gruv was it these?

You could always do a Google image search and lie :D

I know what you mean though, I get so stoked when I see a bus driving down the street and then so pissed when I can't get a picture of it. Cheers

No one would believe that was Las Vegas. There are trees in those pics.

Okay, either

that guy either weighs about 600 pounds
that bus is seriously jacked up in the back
or I am a bad judge of what's level!
Something tells me tire wear issues and handling are a serious problem for this guy!

Boy... I'd love to add to this post but I don't think I've seen another Bay for a month or two here in lower Michigan.... :(

I thought the same thing but I think it's just a really weird angle...

I saw a Vanagon yesterday...but that dosn't count!! I did see a early '70's bay coming home from work last week but I didn't have my camera. You guys have all the fun out west.... :(

jtauxe Wed Aug 27, 2008 7:19 am

Here in our little town of about 11,000, I know of about 4 bay window buses. Half of them actually run (one that I own and one that I used to own)! I intend to own one of the non-running ones before too long -- just need to figure out how to break the news to my wife. "It's an investment, honey!"

It looked like this in person. I think he read the butt lift thread and went a little overboard. :D Or it's the fact that what you can't see is that he is pulling a trailer filled with helium balloons
