Here is another photo showing the fixture attached to the case.

Looks like a bolt on that shot not an "S" hook.

Those look to be 100% gloss not 80%. If so, when did it change?

busdaddy Fri Mar 04, 2022 7:18 pm

Maybe a smooth stud with a small hook on the tip?, or something to put a pin through to keep it through the hole?, or maybe a pointy smooth stud with a hinged flippy bit on the end that turns sideways once through the hole and doesn't come out until you move it with your finger?
It's got to be something that's impossible to lose, even back then I doubt they'd be hoisting engines without some sort of positive lock method.

Looks to me like it might also have been used to hold the engine on the test stand.

There seems to be a ring or loop around the upright part of the bracket, directly above where it attaches to the engine

Is that holding the braket against the device above the flywheel at the top of the stand, to stop the engine tipping forward?

Bolting the engine to the stand would have slowed down the production line, so I wonder if that device is an electromagnet to allow quick-release and the loop is a safety chain in case the magnet released?

A toggle pin, they even make spring loaded versions. That's what I would use, quick to engage and disengage with a very low chance of working its way loose.

I use an ā€œSā€ hook there all the time! 8)

Looks like a bearing cap on a chain sitting on top of the carb.

Perfect for preventing that "oops" moment.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, just couldn't remember the name.

any idea if this is available in high resolution or sold as a large print? I am obsessed with this picture and need it on my wall.

Were those used for door alignment before they went to paint?

Are those partial chassis things on the left hand side of the picture some sort of cart for transporting stuff around?

Looks like bulkhead/lower body... just waiting for upper body.

Not sure about that. I can't see any of the frame, front floor or dogleg structure that were part of the assembly when the bulkhead was added...

They might be tucked under the platform, but some of the bulkheads are folded back as well, almost like they're hinged. If not, they weren't taking much care of some major components. :?

I wondered whether they were used to transport large components like the side and rear body assemblies without damaging them, but I can't see why those assemblies wouldn't have been transported on n some form of racking.

Maybe those were scrap frames rejected from the production line?

This is neat. Postal yellow buses? Early too with centre brakelight, although that went a litttle later in Europe

So much to like here, especially the three sunroof kombis right up front.
