I'm troubleshooting a misfire on my 87 Vanagon and was looking at the adjustment of the throttle switch. Well when pulling stuff apart I noticed a connector with nothing attached to it. Picture show below. What does this connector go to? I see it going to the throttle switch. I cant find the wire that goes to it. Where does that wire connector come from in the engine compartment so I have a general area to look.

Thanks.

Isn't that the old VW diagnostic plug in?

That does look like the VW diagnostic connector that's on my '89 except that mine is on the top of the alternator.

What sort of info can you get from such a diagnostic port anyway? And how would that be done?

if you follow it all the way to where it goes, youll see it goes to what is the backside of the flywheel. Im pretty sure all it does is measure rpm with a hall sensor unit.
