Met a guy at the local cruise. I own a 63 Bug. He said that he has some items that I might like. He has a complete porsche 912 sitting in a garage and a complete 356 engine. I asked what shape they are in. He replied that the car was in good shape and running when parked 10 years ago but he has not opened the garage since!!!. I'm trying to hook up with him this week. I need to know values of each one and anything special to look for on the 912.

Hello-

As tempting as they are, I would pass. Porsche engines are very expensive to work on, and you can get more HP with a VW engine. The only exception would be 1) if you purchased the engine for such a low price that you could part it out at a profit, or 2) the engine was in such great shape that you could just bolt it in and drive away.

look at the classifieds for a price comparison. you could fit a vw engine into a 912 http://www.geocities.com/clarkblumberg/911-912page9.html
thers a lot of 912's running vw's engines. may be not worth as much as a 912 with a porsche engine but still makes a great daily driver
