My Ghia has some major rust issues in one of the fenders, infact the headlight bucket has rusted out and there is just a hole waiting to be be plugged with something: stock headlight or more custom with pre-67 bug lights or 911 halogens.
I had been dreaming about adding BMW Mini headlights and in a post last year I found that the Xenon Mini headlight assemblies would cost about $1500 which was way more than my $300 budget.
When this image appeared in the gallery this summer my interest was re-kindled:
I did some searching on E-Bay and found that you can now purchase OEM 2002-2004 mini headlights for $216 for the pair. I hit the Buy it now option almost instantaneously. These are Halogen versions that solve the leveling and washer problems created by the Xenon headlights.
Now for those of you who installed the mini headlights...what did you have to do...How about posting a How-to?
Here is a How-To for mounting them in a truck...but it would be nice to have the measurements for a Ghia so that I get them pointed down the road instead of spotting aircraft.

You're not going to find a "How to" for something that is custom. Either track down the owner or else find someone who can competently perform this modification from scratch. Read this thread, which details the vehicle in question. |

Thanks Icy...I PM'd both kevin and Eric in that thread. Hopefully they have something to share.
I plan on doing the mod this semester in my car restoration class that I am taking at the local county career center. It would be nice if I had an idea of where to start.
I'll be taking plenty of pics along the way to help out the next guy. |

I hope you understand what I was trying to convey. There are many conversions out there with early Beetle assys as well as some late-1990's Mercedes. I really like the Mini mod and am considering it for my 1969 project. I think more than pictures is if you also supply diagrams and measurements. Those help the most. I would really like to see how you progress, the route you choose, and how the finished product looks. |

I found a How-To on installing pre-67 beetle headlights in a 74 Ghia. This was the Freched in method that Custom Ghia used in the awesome California "PMKN RYD"

The Story included a broken link to the HOW-TO. The correct link is:

Both the 39 Ford truck How-To and the 74 Ghia How-To require the fabrication of a ring to hold the headlight assembly.
It looks like that is where I will start my project. |
