| I am trying to align. my 72 vw karmann ghia( same front end as a bug( ball joint)). I have some knowledge of alignment angles but having problems with figuring out the specs( shop manual is a bently). For the camber my shop manual states 0 degrees 30' plus/minues 20'. I Know what 0 degrees is but what is the 30' can not figure out what this relates to in degrees. Can some one help me with this. |

divide minutes by 60 to get degrees. the angles are sometimes referred to as Hours-Minutes-Seconds which would be the same as Degrees-Minutes-Seconds. I am sure you know how to convert seconds to minutes and minutes to hours. Well, think of degrees as hours like the face of a clock.
In your example: 30' is 30 minutes which is the same as 0.5 hours or 0.5 degrees. The 20' tolerance would mean that you need to set the camber between 50' and 10' or 0.83 deg and 0.17 deg.
See how 30'+/-20' looks a bit cleaner thatn 0.5 deg +/- 0.33 deg? |
