My apologies if someone has already posted this method..I was too busy GRUNTING to "do a search".
After an hour of wrestling with attaching the tank end of this !#$^*#$% hose, I finally came up with a cunning plan. Just in case someone else struggles with this I thought I'd share for posterity.
Through the open "pie plate" hole, I loosened completely the clamp on the fuel filler end, leaving the hose ON the filler tube.
I wrapped a dog leash around the back side of the tank end of the hose, making a loop I could pull on from inside the engine room.
Using the 2' or so handle from a floor jack, I pushed the center of the hose away from the tank, while pulling on the dog leash.
It took a few minutes to get the leash and the jack handle in exactly the right spot to bend the center of the hose, leaving the end open enough to slip over the inlet....but FAR less time than I had already spent fighting this dog. AND IT WORKED.
(I didn't do this, but I can see how someone might...make sure you have the big clamp on both ends of the hose first. It's hard to get both meat hooks in that spot.)
EDIT: Of course, one COULD install the hose the RIGHT way....by attaching the hose to the TANK first, and sliding it onto the filler pipe as the tank goes in (in which case the leash trick could be used to line up the hose onto the filler pipe.....but I inherited this mistake.
I am now enjoying a very cold non-virtual beer. |

As they say around these parts: pics or it didn't happen! Go back in there and do it again with a camera! :P |

Oh HELL no!! I've still got to go back in and connect the last vent hose on the passenger side. That's enough for me.
EDIT: Incidentally, the leash trick worked again, to put enough pressure on that vent pipe to mate it to the hose. Do Germans have little teeny elvish arms and hands with the strength of trolls to do this kind of crap, or just the correct Hazet tools? |
