How often does the charcoal canister need to be changed? Is there a way to refill these things (refurbish)...from what I found you can use charcoal for fish tanks but I am not sure if the vanagon canister is user friendly for being opened up and refilled. I checked the posts and couldn't find anything on it so forgive me if I missed it.

Thanks

It's supposed to be self cleaning, if it isn't rusted through(no holes in it) and air flows through it freely it should be fine.

Rusted thru? Haven't seen a metal one; are the early aircooled ones metal?

It's a no-service item otherwise. The only thing that can go wrong is they can get clogged up with dust until they're ineffective. Even then you'd never notice. As long as air can flow thru the canister, it's fine to use and probably doing its job well.

Opps, wrong canister, it's plastic.

Cool. At least that is one other NLA part I do not have to worry to much about.

Thanks
