I am currently considering getting a rag clip for my 62.. I know I know.. not O.E. but anyway... My next thought is doing a 3" chop at the same time. Anyone here that had done the mod or anyone that has pointers or sugestions.

oh man its so hard if ur not a pro to chop a bug
cause u have to like stretch it and its insane but looks great if done right

In this regard I'm a little lucky... I work at a shop called Road Surfer here in Sacramento http://www.roadsurfer.net. I have been involved in the air suspension manufacturing for several years now ( I was formally with th Air Lift company... you may know them from our air bag kits for the type 1) So I have plenty of qualified people to help. :)
BTW.. I got the "AirDaddy" name from suspension .. not air-cooled, I'm just not that cool. :wink: I have always wanted to build a bug but living in Michigan.. it was never a realistic option, I just didnt have the money to buy a rust free bug... lol They are REALLY rare in Mi.
So I after all of this.. I was looking for people who have done the mod before to offer some insight.
I'm thinking of raking the front glass an inch and then doing a 3" chop. My photo shop skills suck so I havent been able to really get a feel for what it would look like yet.
Any thoughts?

This guys got a yellow bug with a 4 inch chop but it will give u an idea ill try and find one with 3 inch chop

I'm one of the moderators at volksrods.com Check out my site at www.runtrod.com and you'll find 3 or 4 step by step articles under the "How To" section. Airbag masters and metal work masters are alot different.

You'll need at least 1 spare Beetle roof clip since you'll need to add to the length and width to the roof when you chop it. Beetles are one of the hardest cars to chop because of it's roofline.

Also maybe best to not chop the rear window, just lay it down but keep it stock. Next to impossible to cut tempered glass so you'd have to use plexi, lexan or whatever instead if you chop the rear window. Windshields aren't tempered but safety glass laminated so they can be chopped.

Thanks for the reply.. Metal master I am not!!! :D But the guys I work with are pretty damn good. I really wanted the input from someone like yourself who has done bugs... 32 fords and chevys are just arent the some..) I have found a few leads on entire roof clips with a rag .. I think I'm going to attempt to rake front and rear glass and do a 3" chop.. Any more and I lose to much head room for my oversized melon.
