Great find. Just the way I like em...crusty. Looks like you need to finish some of those other projects so you can start that 54. :D It appears to be in better shape then KCW's truck before they started. Good luck!

Very cool, congratulations on the find.

It looks like you have the original engine. I would be interested in knowing the following:
Your VIN #
Your engine #
The part # stamped into your air cleaner, along with some detailed photos.

Is that some snake skin in the first pic? that would be sweet!

frenzix Sun Sep 21, 2008 4:35 am

sure is a snake skin a "brown snake" skin also, one of the most deadly snakes in the world, only other thing i found that was interesting was an old half penny coin, australia havnt had pounds as currency since the 60's

Thank you.

I think the engine # might be 20-880014?

Be careful with the rear engine tin, it's Barndoor Truck only because of the fuel line hole:

Thanks for the info.. it really does say 20-0380014

but the 3 might be a not stamped correctly 8 I'll take a really good pic this arvo when my new camera lands..

That does not look like a VW engine stamp.

My '55 Barndoor Kombi original engine:

This is the correct font and style.

Cracking find there... :D

frenzix Mon Sep 22, 2008 2:52 am

interesting.. should my engine number and gearbox number match if they are both original..

EverettB Mon Sep 22, 2008 7:40 am

No, they are different sequences.

Aaron Mon Sep 22, 2008 10:34 am

That looks like stamped dealer replacement case in the truck.

EverettB Mon Sep 22, 2008 1:41 pm

I would agree, probably a dealer blank case that they used whatever stamp they had locally in Australia to stamp the original number back in. Maybe your original case was dirty and they stamped a 3 instead of an 8?

20-0880014 would be the correct month and year for your VIN #.

If we could go back in time we could know the truth...
