i have a 1970 ghia that i have been working on for about a year..question about the steering..i put on new tie rods, steering box and ball joints.. because i was having excessive play in steering wheel.. now when i drive the steering is good and tight but every now and then the steering wheel feels like it slips when im going around a corner and freaks me out.. slips about 3 inches...then normal again..If the car is sitting in garage , engine off you can do the same with the steering,, turn the wheel and tires start to move then slip..I having it worked on tommorrow.. anybody else have this issue...?
thanks |

Under the fuel tank there is a steering coupler. It is a rubber disk that mates the steering column togeher. Take a close look at it... |

have someone else turn the wheel while you look at the area around the steering box. Have that person tell you when they feel the problem happen.
You will probably be able to see the steering shaft still turning, but somewhere between the clamp nut and steering box, the rest will not be. |
