View original topic: engine bay / tin differences: early bay vs. beetle

I have an early bay with a non-original engine that the PO kind of shoved in there to test drive. All of the correct (according to him) tin is sitting in the back of the bus. I keep getting time wasting surprises...but in the front of the engine compartment (front is front), the tin that is on there leaves a good 3-4 inches of space between the tin and the engine bay.

I'm going to have to pull the engine regardless, I'm just hoping I'm not in for more of a surprise. the engine is from a super beetle, and the engine number is H221699. Would this case fit the engine mounts in a '69 bay?

I'm just hoping that the PO didn't do something weird to make the motor fit in there.

Anyone with experience here?

regroup.. you don't have 3 to 4 inches there ,, with no tin in place..... bug has rounded ends,,, bus has square ends

just checked the engine code again. Looks like it is an exchange engine, as it has the vw logo, a letter, and there is an X at the end. It came from a SB, has DP heads, 34 pict 3, alternator...

What do you mean regroup?

Awesome! thanks. the engine in there has the bug tin, which would cause my air gaps. I've just never been able to look at them side by side.

So looks like I'll be alright as long as I get the right tin on there. thanks for the help.

as you can see it's the ends ..

regroup means think about how big 4" is a 2x4 is really 1 5/8's x 3 5/8's ....
