Just throwing this out there....we have a small group of 5 guys in Richmond, VA who are interested in starting a club. Nothing really fancy, just meeting up once a month to discuss upcoming shows, how to fix stuff and just basically shoot the breeze about everything air-cooled!! I'm suggesting we meet the first Friday of each month at Moe's Southwest Grill at 6423 Centralia Rd. Chesterfield, VA (in the Ukrop's Shopping Center at Rt. 10 and Centralia). Our first meeting will be November 7th at 7pm. When it hits late spring we could possibly move our meeting to the Sports Park just down the street and join up with the cruise-in they have. A short-term goal would be to have an air-cooled VW show or gathering sometime in summer 2009. It will probably be a small show, but if we stick together we can make it happen!! Email [email protected] or call me at (804) 822-6746 for more info!!!

Bill with the red 64 SC and oval? I'd probably cruise on by, but the 7th is a bad weekend this month. :wink: going to a little show that weekend

Brian, I'm still planning on being there. Chuck.

I'm not around that weekend, but I do have interest in a new Central VA club, since last two have evaporated, as far as I know. Keep my email on your post!

I'll bring an agenda, but if anyone has anything they want to bring up at the meeting just email me or post a reply and I'll add it. BTW, got my clutch plate replaced on my 65 and am cruisin' again!! Almost got blown off the road going to work today...WINDY!!!

cool, I got another buddy coming too!

It was nice meeting you guys. I honestly would like and unformal stand or sit around,eat and BS kinda club gathering. No dues and such. That just my opinion. When I was in the tidewater type 2 we had our month meeting and now and then we would have a show or tech gathering and help a buddy or rescue a bus from the woods. We even had a welding class one time. However like I said its just my opinion and not my idea to start a club so take it as you will. -Jeremy

Just like Jeremy had said previously, it was very nice to meet you guys. I have to agree myself with Jeremy when it comes to having an "informal" club, without the dues, rules, etc. etc. etc. You know, when you see a whole bunch of people around you, that share the same passion and interest of the Volkswagen, you cannot help but to be motivated to work on your own more and more. Helping one another out in their own projects, is something that most VW lovers do regardless...of being in a club or not. So, if you want my opinion (i am game either way), come up with a logo, meet once a month, and just let it flow and in the end, everyone will have gained new friends and knowledge to further themselves in their own VW projects.

again, good to meet all yall that I haven't before!
It was a good gathering! I got pumped about my dub, came home and installed a few pieces I needed to. Just got in from the garage a second ago! (but I'm still getting used to the new notch, only had her a month, traded my 67 split 13 window dlx for her - tampa FL)
I agree to, we should try to meet once a month, share ideas, help each other out, and cruise to shows (and make our own this spring) 8 vintage dubs is a nice little convoy!! I'm cool with whatever! It's up to yall.

Brian can you scan the sign in sheet so everyones got everyones contact info?

What will be the name?????
What will the logo look like???
I like Bills idea of the crossroads thing.

Hey everyone! Great turnout yesterday and thanks for all the post-meeting comments. I agree with most of what's been said. I, personally, would like informal, agenda-less meetings where we can get together either at Cici's once a month. If one of us needs something looked at or fixed on our V-dub, then we can meet at that person's house. I'm also for clinic-type meetings where each of us can share our knowledge on how to repair, weld, find parts, find girls who like ratty v-dubs...etc. Oops, except me, I'm married and she already hates Vdubs...oh well!

I don't want dues either, but if we are going to have a show or make T-shirts, etc. then we'll need a little money. I propose that we collect funds from the club only on an as-needed basis, i.e. to make T-shirts, club cards or for up-front costs associated with putting on a show (awards, food, raffle prizes, etc.). Regarding shows we can always charge a registration fee which will help pay for all the costs.

So, it was a great meeting and I met more interested folks at a car show today (sorry I didn't tell you guys about last night...just found out about this morning...took first in import cars...guess who was second? A Ferrari!!!). I'll send out the club roster shortly as well as a summary of the notes. I look forward to hanging out with all of you...and if anyone wants to get together before our next meeting then just post a reply here!

Dacarbie Sat Nov 08, 2008 10:06 pm

According to what everyone said our next show will be at Tony's place where we will take a look at Tom's Ghia and why his battery keeps dying. Date: Saturday, December 6th. Time: 10am. Rather than posting the location of Tony's house I'll do that through email, and if there are any new members that want to meet just send me an email to [email protected] and I'll get you directions.

Great meeting last night...we had 8 show up out of 12 that were interested so that's awesome! Moe's had a parking lot full of air-coolers, which was very cool! Thanks to everyone that showed up, and for all of you that will show up at our next meeting!

Next meeting is Sat. Dec 6th, 10am at Tony's. If you need directions contact Tony at [email protected]

Here is what went down at our meeting last night:

* President - me! thanks guys :(

* VP - Bill Wright

* Secretary/Treasurer - TBD

* VW/Air cooled show next summer at Brown's VW (I'll talk to the guys there, Tony also knows an employee there who owns a 62 ragtop.

* Josh will work on getting our club a website

* Club Name and Logo -- Bill is working on this and has come up with: Central VA SlowDubz. The Logo will incorporate our club name with a VW Beetle Convertible graphic. Inside the VW is a beetle/bug wearing sunglasses. The club name and graphic will be surrounded by an old school cogwheel. Bill said he'd bring a couple of drawing at our next meeting for us to decide on.

* Business Cards/Flyers -- I will get started on a flyer and will have something at our next meeting. Once the logo is finished I will buy some business cards for the club!

* We'd like to limit our club participation to Air-Cooled only vehicles.

* If we are not meeting at a member's house to work on a car then our regular meetings will be held at Cici's Pizza (Off of Courthouse Rd, just south of Midlothian Tpk...next to Firehouse Subs) first Friday of every month at 7pm.

* Bill offered his garage for emergency repairs. His email is: [email protected]

Last thing...before I send a roster out to everyone I'd like to get permission to share everyone's phone number with everyone else. So if you are getting this email just let me know if you don't want your phone number shared. If I don't hear from you then I'll assume you don't want it shared.

I'll have to try and come out to next month's meet. Just got a heads up about this.

Jerry Hundley Mon Nov 10, 2008 6:22 am

Any pics from the meeting?

Dacarbie Mon Nov 10, 2008 9:36 pm

Central VA SlowDubz will hold a Cruise-In, Friday November 21st at Cici's Pizza...corner of Courthouse and Midlothian Turnpike...starting at 6:30pm. Make it if you can!!

Dacarbie Mon Nov 10, 2008 10:10 pm

Central VA SlowDubz doesn't seem to be flying for everyone...everyone throw out a suggestion and we'll vote on the name at the next meeting...or -in at the cruise-in!
