A local buisness that my daughter loves is being sued by Monster Cable because of copyright violations??Yes,apparently "Monster Mini Golf" is the exact same thing as "Monster Cable"??Buisnesses in completly DIFFERENT universes/services/customer base are a threat to each other??This seems like its not the first time!(Check the links)When I took my daughter there for her birthday party, all the kids LOVED it!(Even we thought it was pretty awesome) http://monsterminigolf.com/bully.html http://www.monstergreed.com/Index%20with%20info%20about%20MC.htm

Gotta love the legal system. They own the word monster? Right
Monster is over priced and over rated.
Do not buy from them.

I call my mother in law my "monster in law", I guess I'll get a letter pretty soon, better find a lawyer

Letterman7 Fri Dec 05, 2008 7:06 am

Right...and then they'll go after Monster.com. That would be an interesting conflict. Effin' lawyers....

The Sage Fri Dec 05, 2008 7:27 am

Consider this your cease and desist notice on the word Effin' I purchased it in 2001.

I think Monster Cable is taking this action based more on how the copyright laws are written rather than being confrontational.

SUE THIS BITCH!

Wonder what Boris Pickett would have to say... or Boris Karloff for that matter  :?

Monster Mash was a huge hit... and Karloff has played many a monster in his day!

Reminds me of when Ralph Lauren was able to win the exclusive rights to the word Polo! That floored me then as I thought it was the name of a sport! "blood sucking lawyers"

They already did:

Quote: One that is ironic is the claim they are "protecting their mark against dilution", yet they struck a secret deal with Monster.com job board. We are trying to determine if this included "Pre-IPO" stock in Monster.com. Note the link at the bottom of www.Monster.com to Monster Cable's website. The irony is Monster.com has become the company most people think of when you refer to the word Monster. It appears that as long as they can make money "protecting their mark" the it's acceptable for others to "dilute" it.

Quote: In 1999, Monster Cable sued the company it has been most
mistaken for, Monster.com., the Maynard, Mass., online job-hunting
site. The companies settled in February 2000, but agreed to keep
the terms confidential.

They are notorious for doing this. One time they screwed with the wrong guy  This is seriously worth the long read, it's hilarious:

Quote: Not long ago we reported that Monster Cable had issued a cease and desist letter to Blue Jeans Cable about their Tartan cables. Little did the lawyer drones over at Monster know that Kurt Denke, the president of Blue Jeans was, in a former life, a lawyer by trade. Oops! Someone pushed around the wrong "small" company! While we are no legal experts, we recognize humor when we see it. And this is funny. With Blue Jeans Cable's permission, we've included their full response to Monster's letter below. We even discussed it before its release on AV Rant. Kurt wants to keep this entire process completely open to the public and we're more than happy to oblige. Enjoy.

Yea, they already sued them too.

The funny thing is that they weren't even the first to trademark a name with "Monster" in it.

That is one seriously fucked up company.

They sued the Chicago Bears because their nickname has been the Monsters of Midway............. since the 1940's!

Quote: All lawyers are slime, and Dave's the slimiest of them all. -Monster Cable's founder, on his chief counsel

I'm not sure if I mentioned this or not, but that is one seriously fucked up company...

Lee. Fri Dec 05, 2008 8:48 am

They should try and sue these guys.

Based on further evidence, it seems they are just sleazy.

Comments retracted.

I've used one Monster cable in the past and it failed within 2 months. I replaced it with a cable from Radio Shack for 1/3 the cost and have had no troubles since. I will never use Monster cable again.

I'll never buy their overpriced bullshit again. I bought a very expensive Monster HDMI cable. At the same time, I ordered a $15 China model from ebay. No difference.

The recording industry lawyers and those Monster lawyers must have attended the same school of law.

Vanhag Fri Dec 05, 2008 9:27 pm

Today at lunch time I went home and took a MONSTER dump in the toilet.
