Instead of doing numerous posts or adding to congested posts I'll slap my pics and progress on my 73 here. It's a green apple/lime green color combo that's pretty rare as far as I know. If you or any one else you know has a simular painted bus please post it!! I think that these busses are rediculously ugly to the point that they just need to be saved to prove that, yes they were built (kinda like the golf harlequins? wtf were they thinking?) Progress is going to be slow due to 2 kids, a wife, a mortgage- yada yada....broke as hell....etc. I do hope to have it pretty this year and cross country ready by 2010. Right now I have the engine pulled to put a new set of mounts in and repair 30+ years worth of cooling tin butchery. I got the 1700 running pretty well before pulling so I'm not going to dig into that just yet when there's bigger problems ahead. The doors, glass and seals are all out in prep for sheet metal repair, starting with doglegs.

I think they are some of the best looking vehicles on the road. They look practical and usable. Not like about everything else. Nothing these days looks bigger on the inside than on the outside.

I like that color combo as much as I like the Champagne Edition combo colors and I like Champagne Editions :) They just scream 70's. :lol:

I have to wait until spring before I can get into the ford 2.3 swap so I thought I'd get down to the menial things that most bay'ers do like-

Por15'in the floor (along with welding in a floor patch)

Then putting some fat mat all over the place

This is roughly 50 square feet of the 100 square kit they sell on ebay for 100.00 I'm pretty happy with the difference in tone so far but I'll probobly buy another kit to make it as quiet as possible. I've got the other 50 sqare roll set aside and I'll wait until I get my engine positioned and radiator situated before I install anything in the back package area. Fat mat isn't nearly as thick as some of the dynamat scraps I've got laying around, but is sure beats nothing (vw's stock sound dampening method).

I pulled the trans to size up the adaptor for hardware because I'd like to still be able to remove the starter when it's installed (the supplied bolts won't allow that). The three rib is fine by me as with a 29 inch tire 4th gear should give me 65mph at 3400rpm. I'd like a better cruising rpm but I'll make do.

That was a 1 year only option.

I'd say the top is Bali Yellow/L62H

The bottom looks like a custom color of a lighter sage green maybe? Don't know just my $.02

not much new but here's the pergo cut and laid. That's the co-pilot testing out my work.

How are folks trimming the edge that shows when you open the slider?

I solved this problem on my bus using some trim for edging steps
and 'L' cross-section aluminium. I wrote this up in a post a few months back.;start=0

Here is a photo of the finished job. I am very pleased with it.

I'm tearing my riviera top off now and thought I'd post more pics and dimension for the others that are converting too.

The hole dimension for a riviera are 8.5 inches up from the drip rail on both sides. Follow both top ribs just aft of the drivers area and just fore of the rear seat and cut along those. The hole is basically the same location as a sunroof, just inside the slider door.

Don't hate on me for trashing this bus. The entire front clip is garbage and I bought it as a rolling shell that someone else had already taken the good parts off of. One must die so that others will live.....

The wheather has been nice so I pulled the bus out to cut up the roof. The good news is that I can clear my garage door opening as long as someones holding the door all the way up and a driver is sitting in it, otherwise clearance is a huge issue. The hole is cut and the bed installed. I have to wait until tommorrow for a few buddies to help lift the top up there.

The box on the floor behind the driver is my water "furnace". It's a self contained heater. The fan will be controlled the rotary knob on the dash and the stock cables are being relocated to cotrol flaps in the box. It'll still backfeed some hot air through the drivers door (my bus has the flow through armrests) so I can have suitable defrost.

How hard is this swap to do? I have two of these that I am waiting to do. What is your plan for the headliner? You will love the Rivi it is the best top out there, our last bus had one and I will put one on every bus I own from here on out.

What is it secured to the roof with?
