Hey all,
I just bought a sweet 1977 champaign edition bay window (pictures soon!) I was driving it home after my purchase, which entailed a 10 hour road trip. The van ran tip top until about 6 hours into the trip. I was cruising at about 90km and the van had an enormous miss. I pressed down on the excellerator and nothing would happen.
It lasted about 5 seconds, slowing me down drastically, and then everything was normal. This happened about 3 more times within 5 min and then it ran fine for another 2 hours. Then the same thing again, with a return to normal for the last hour of the trip. My trip started with an outside temperature of about 8 degrees Celsius and ended with temperatures around -8 degrees Celsius.
I used gas line anti-freeze in the first tank of fuel burned. Is this a common response to change in weather for operating conditions? Or is there something else I can check?
Van starts great still, runs fine in town. I have not had it on the highway again, for I am about to store it for winter.
2.0L fuel injection motor
Cheers,

Welcome and congratulations on the aquisition of your Champagne or CE bus.
Short of crap in your gas tank the first thing to look at is the wiper board in the air flow meter. Pry off the black cap and see if the brass contacts are running on intact contact area. Look at ratwell.com or type2.com for directions on shifting the board to new contact areas or further diagnosis. Post your findings for further diagnosis. |
