Hey RobW-Z - I know exactly what you mean by the mobile ATC on a van!

I was in the Royal Australian Air Force til '82, and on one occassion I rode in one being moved from Sydney to Newcastle, a full 6 hour drive in a baywindow! It was painted bright red and white, with a huge half a sphere of clear perspex mounted on top.

Everytime we stopped for a coffee or lunch, a crowd would gather and ask "Wot's that, mate". I was only an LAC, but the Corporal driving it had a ball telling tall tales about it - "It's for inspecting the underside of Lancaster bombers", "It's really a submersible and the big clear bubble on top is to inspect ship hulls for damage or enemy mines".

I never did see it used, though. Wish I had a picture now.

What is Bergwatch?

Is that Danish for Baywatch?

If so, does this belongs to the Danish 'Hoff???

I have images of Pamela Handerson pushing the van (falsely) trapped in the sand....

Hi,

The Bergwacht in Germany had a lot of Syncro 16 vanagons - that mostly was sold via and private dealers 2 years ago.

Cars with very low mileage and full service history.

So a Bergwacht Syncro is something quite special - the one on the picture have just passed 50.000 original kilometers - talk about a low mileage Vanagon :-)

Have fun

A VW junkyard in this area had a homemade Syncro tow truck he used in his yard; body cut off behind the front seats, extra rear axle behind the rear wheels and a tow boom attached to the flat bed. Ugly. Wish I'd gotten a photo when I had the chance. He sold it.

That Syncro gypsy is the most badass vehicle I've ever seen. Drooool.

taigagreen Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:13 pm

Here's a one off.

It was special-ordered army green by a danish priest living in England. He even had a danish army flag on it. He then moved to Norway where it came up for sale a few years ago. I was too slow to act on it and it went to Austria or Switzerland.

Stats: 1990 syncro 16" Karmann Gipsy. 1.6td w/intercooler. Had 96 000km on clock and one owner when sold in Norway.

Hi

it seems that most, if not all those pictures show -european- Vanagons. It also shows that they are all equipped with the yellow/orange front turn signals.
I could be wrong, but it also seems to me that in some posts on other topics, the clear/smoked front turn signals were labeled "european".

So then where do the clear/smoke front turn signals originate from, perhaps South African market? or are they just a little more bling for your buck ?
