puddle pirate Mon Dec 29, 2008 7:20 am

Fattie, I knew someone would find what you wanted. More power. I mean, More light.

Fattie Tue Dec 30, 2008 6:59 pm

found these at my local FLAPS (advanced auto) they go for $10

Maimas13 Tue Dec 30, 2008 7:22 pm

if you know how to solder you can buy the raw components off ebay for like $6 and make 50 of em

those look pretty convenient though

Fattie Sat Jan 03, 2009 1:35 am

BTW: the bulb part # is Ba7s
do a web search.... there's plenty of suppliers of the LED type Ba7s

if anyone uses the ones in the eBay AD above.. please report back on the results installed

So I did the LED thing that the OP did and I am very happy with the results, they light up the speedo so cleanly its amazing and all for about $4. It was just easy and clean.

My wiring setup.

Before

After (It really is brighter, just a bad picture)

It matches the stereo, next I have to get another LED set and do the head temp gauge

Thanks for the great idea bugbyte.

I'm liking the LED work guys, LGOT yours is looking nice. I like the color of the LEDs a lot better than old incandescent bulbs... maybe I'm just weird. I've also got 100 LEDs sitting in my desk drawer waiting on a project.

TGOT, that speedo of yours is lookin' seriously clean! LEDs aside, it looks like you've restored the face. Looks new! What did you do to it?

puddle pirate Mon Feb 02, 2009 5:12 pm

Alex, I have a use for the blue LED's You can put them in my bug speedo and see how it looks with the blue. I also have a tach you can do.

I just took it all apart very carefully and replaced the colored gels for the idiot lights and cleaned the face with diluted windex. It really brightened up the white numbers and marks. Thanks for noticing.

I'll give that a try next time I have mine apart! Since I'm going LED, I'll also be redoing the gels and I would love for the whiter numbers to hump out in the LED lighting!
