There were several different money boxes. This KdF version is the rarest in my opinion. Rarely offered for sale and usually very expensive. Sorry, I don't have any pics online. |

Here's a cool picture I found in the gallery. These banks are very hard to find.

Oh! now I understand
so it's a way of keeping tabs on how much you have in your money box, without having to open it up and count it all manually
Well that's very clever isn't it!
thanks. |

It´s even better. The boxes have a clever mechanic inside that updates the display automatically depending on the type of coin AND its opens automatically after 5 RM, because 5 RM was the price for one saving card stamp. |

The KdF-Wagen was going to be 990 ReichsMarks?
Take a while to get your car, if you saved 5RM a week |

Amazing! Germans sure are clever!
Say that a KdF beelte in todays value would be $ 9 900, and you'd save 50 bucks a week... Then it would take less than 4 years to own your own KdF... I would beleive the problem in the economy today is that people saves the first 50 bucks and then goes buying the car with the rest on credit...
The problem for the germans must have been that even the ones saved all the stamps didn't get a KdF, instead they build a kubel... Did ANYONE get a KdF by these stamps? |

I read somewhere, I can't remember where that after the war a group of people sued Volkswagen and they had to honor the KdF savings program,
it was something like up to 600 DM towards the cost of your new Beetle, the offer was open until 1961 I think
Maybe someone knows more? |

Googled a bit, some links to the "sparkarte"... 990 RM seems correct...

I heard that the average person at the time earnt about 30-50RM a week, so the cost of the car was about a years wages for someone. |
