I have taken my wheels off for the first time, and the brakes are a mess. All sorts of problems, but right now I'm curious about the inner and outer wheel bearings. I'm wondering what criteria I should use to assess whether they need replacing? They haven't made any noise and the car seems to drive okay (except for the lack of brakes) but I'm wondering if there are any other visible signs on the bearings themselves that they should be replaced? I noticed a little scratching, but nothing else.
Thanks,

take some brake cleaner to them and inspect them real good.
dose any of them look discolored? whats the cages feel like? any play in the rollers?
if you think you can get some more miles out them pack them full of grease and get down the road. if you replace them you also have to replace the races.
dont forget new grease seals! |
