the fridge in my westy has never worked for me on propane, so i yanked it the other day. there is very little to these things so i thought i have to be able to fix the damn thing. i played with all the bits, checking for ignition, and gas flow. when i opened up the burner all looked great, but peaking in the burner tube i found a wee spider web. cleaned it out, modified the air pump, replaced the crappy fan with a couple of nice quiet computer fans, put it all together and popped it back in. lights first time now and i kid you not, it make ice cubes in those cute little trays in about 1 hour! bam! one happy camper. you gotta like it when things work out after all the effort. all the blowing with compressed air won't budge a spider web, you have to get in there and look. next project, front heater fan this weekend. oh boy.

I used to use a propane fridge for my house, and have helped friends with theirs'. The only real maintenance task with that technology is to keep the flue clean. The pipe exhaust moves up establishes the rate of flow, and that is what pulls air in thru the burner. The air mix is set to work at a particular flow. Upset it, and the mixture goes off, the thing doesn't cool as well, and worst of all it makes excessive CO. All 'cause of an itsy bitsy spider.....

And well you should be. Congrats.

Have you reinstalled it yet? If not, something you may want to consider.

I recall reading one users findings/speculations, that 2 muffin fans might partly block and reduce the natural cooling (convection?) air flow that moves past the fins. The writer speculated that since both fans ended up staying on most of the time, they might not have been moving as much air as planned.

Maybe one muffin fan with a high CFM rating is better than 2 (?)

Cheers,

Neil.
