I have no books on 36HP Buses so asking about acceptable end-play. I am looking at an engine, early 60 case #, and seller tells me end-play is about 1/8". Is this "way" out of acceptable or usable for a rebuild on the engine? Or is this normal for an old engine like this and can a rebuild of the internals take up that 1/8" play somehow. I am basically buying the engine for future project figuring I will take it all apart down the road and rebuild but before I buy the engine, wanted to ask about end-play.
Thanks in advance for any quick answers. I had planned on looking at the engine tomorrow but seller was nice enough to let me know about end-play.
Thanks

An 1/8" is BAD, very bad.
It should me .07mm-.12mm. The wear limit is .15mm (.006").
Expect the case to need a line bore, a thrust cut, and probably several of the pegs machined for step pins......or worse.
Or maybe the flywheel is loose? |

OK, I will steer clear.
I guess I need to invest in a tool to check these things so if I see an engine, I can see for myself. The seller gave me the # this time so.
Thanks for the quick word!
