And a couple weekends ago I hit a garage sale with a bunch of car parts and ended up finding these gems.
It has been a good year to get back into Vws. :)
You wouldn't happen to wanna sell that sea sand 66 decklid? A recent hunt (a couple years in the making) had me hauling this one home 1200 miles. It has been tapped in the rear, and the deckild was swapped and painted to (not really) match the rest of the car.

ok, so I am the VERY happy new owner of an original owner 59 that has been sitting in a garage for about 35 years and trying to figure out if the engine is original or not, there are receipts for two engines one in 1975 and the other in 1985, I am uncertain if the recpt for the first is rebuild or replace, almost seems like replaced in 75 and that one was later rebuilt in 85 just before the car was parked, is there a code here somewhere to match my engine # to so I can figure out if the orig. engine or not ? the speedo is dated 1-59

First, congrats on the find!
You can look at the Bug VIN # / Engine # charts here:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php
If the engine # is from the same month as the VIN #, it's probably the original.
The numbers on that page are the LAST numbers for a month.
If you are not sure or want people to tell you instead:
Post the VIN # and engine #s here and people can help you out.
The only way to know for certain is to order a VW Birth Certificate:

Super cool!!! Are you going to start a dedicated thread on this beauty? More pictures please!!!
From what I can see, the paint looks to be in pretty good shape. I'm sure it will buff out nicely!
It will be interesting to see if you find more evidence of the car having had a radio installed in the past, because, although it has the matching dash block off plate, I see a dual post antenna on the drivers side.
I will keep my mouth shut about that wretched fuel filter in the engine bay, because I'm sure you will deal with it appropriately!
Final thought, when you get a chance, will you check and see if the engine still has the thermostat system installed? I'm just curious. :D |

Thanx, yeah that fuel filter is on its way out for sure, ESPECIALLY being above the distributor like that, I am trying to contact the original owners kids now to some kind of back story for the car other than what I have gathered from the paper trail of receipts 😀 |

Looks to never have had a radio, no speaker, and I think the thermostat system is long gone, I need a front embelem and a German rear bumper

Nice!!! I wish we weren't located on the opposite ends of the USA, I'd love to help you get that beauty back up and running on the road again. It looks just like my car, but nicer! Thanks for the pictures! |

Brought this 67 home yesterday, original paint (what’s left of it) black car with pretty cool patina I think. Absolutely zero rust which is a nice plus.

Just a quick after pic after getting it all cleaned up.

Nice! Is it running and driving?
It looks like you drove it there but maybe it's just a staged pic. :) |

No, I live very close to a nice open park so I’m able to get a ton of my car pics taken there without much hassle. Wish it was running and driving already but that’ll be left for the next owner. |

Funny… as I go through this post (13 years after it was posted) in 2022 seems like a lot of good parts left…. |

Does the red detailing on a beetle qualify it as a Pigalle, like a type 3? |

Yes, I think so. It has lots of red parts still too.
