View original topic: San Diego (CA) Welders and/or machine Shops?

Hi Guys...it's been several weeks since I've visited...It's good to be back!

I am counting down the days to our Wedding Anniversary Road Trip to The Valley of Fire (NV) and Zion National Park in Utah (leaving Sat. April 4th).

I haven't made any more progress on my Seat Swivel Project and was hoping to get this done before our trip. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=341644&highlight=swivel

Can anyone recommend a San Diego area welder and machine shop?
I need a strip of metal cut from the swivel base, some metal ground smooth, and finally some spot welding.

Thank you.

If you have been asking around for spot welding you have been asking for the wrong kind of welding. The seat swivel plate is not spot welded in. Any generic arc welder can weld the plate into place.

Most any auto shop has the welding capabilities you need, as do lots of ordinary folks at home. I have welded a few of those swivel plates in myself with a wire feed welder I bought from Costco.

Thanks Mark. I appreciate the info on arc welding. When I talk to welders, this lingo will be helpful!

You might try this place:

George & Krogh Welding, Inc.
1357 Las Villas Way
Escondido, CA 92026
760-745-5368

One of those real craftsman places, they fabricate things as well, hasn't been cleaned since the 1940s, real cool place. They welded in 2 pipes for the feet of my jump seat. The kind of place where you could just drive over, bring your seat parts, and show them how you want it to be, and they would weld or fab some metal pieces if needed.

I ended up finding a welder on Craigslist. We met with him today for our project and everthing worked out great!

Working out of his home in Lakeside, his rates are reasonable. I will certainly use his services again, if I need them.

His name is Mike Fry and can be contacted at (619) 390-9031.

BTW, he is also a videographer and does graphic design.
