GoodYear Terras! 31x15:50x15 Not street legal.
Work great, softer side wall = smoother ride. Have been running them for 10-12 years and only on my second set. The new Terras hook so hard in the mud I'm having a hard time even with a bus trans keeping them spinning (hard core sticky mud). The 1776 doesn't have an issue however.

Even with the old Terras she dug a long way. Pretty much on the pan here. That's all she wrote. 8)

Ill let you all know how the REMINGTON - Mud Brute's work.
I have a set of 31 x 10.50 15 (the actual tread width is more like 8 inches)
& I have Wildcat EXT 215 / 75 15

As for my old tires, they are Thornbird TSL 30 x 9.5 15 http://www.offroaders.com/tech/AT-MT-Tires/Thornbird_TSL.htm
I didnt like them. They are way too heavy for a simi stock motor/trans...
The 2 rear Thorn Bird TSL's & rims that are on there weigh somewhere in the range of 100 lbs each!
Should mention that the tread face is more like 11.5 wide!

I was wandering if I could get a couple different responses.

One was, is there anyone who is running YOKOHAMA - Y742s? I am very interested in these tires for my full length pan Manxter DualSport. I was almost ready to buy them on tirerack.com, and then I noticed they had a "D" load rating. How stiff is a "D" rated tire. I noticed HERCULES HDT BIAS LUG(http://www.herculestire.com/catalogHercules/pdfCatalogPages/page26_HercHDT_BiasTrailLPT.pdf) is also a "D" rated tire. I went to Pacific Customs and noticed the Mickey Thompson Mini Mag had a "B" load rating and they appeared to be a nice soft tire. The liked the Mini Mags because they are DOT approved, but I would really like to have a 7.00X15 (30" tall). When I was at Pacific Customs they had some NACOS there and guy there said they are real hard tires; I also noticed they weren't DOT approved. The DEAN TIRES - Courser Traction LT are "C" load rated tires, is there anyone out there with a set of these that could give an opinion (are they DOT approved).

So with that, is there any one else so particular about getting DOT approved tires for their street legal ride, but still want an aggressive looking tire for when they want to play in the dirt?

I was wandering if anyone could give me advice and their opinion on DOT approved tires. I will be running them on both street and off-road, so I am looking for some that are aggressive for the dirt but some that are also safe for the kids on the street.

My real Question is for the people out there with YOKOHAMA - Y742s, how do you like them and do you feel they to stiff. I under stand they are “D” load rated at 65 psi and you will probably only run about 20 psi, but with that the rubber compound would still be pretty hard. With that, how would a hard compound handle on a light car, say in the rain or even in loose dirt?

But then again I could just be thinking to hard. I have a tendency to do that.

I have the Hercules HDT's and they are DOT approved. They do fine at freeway speeds. I run them 16psi on and off road. Not sure what you are looking for in ride quality. They won't grab the road like a street tire will. Never had them in rain, but they do fine in sand, mud, and rock. I can get them locally for $80-ish each. If I ever wear through these 8 year old tires, I'll get another set.

I’ve got one trip on my lightly modified 35x14.5x15 boggers mounted on some Duralite 15x14x5 circle track beadlocks. So far they hook nice, but I don’t think they are DOT approved anymore. :lol:

This is just the rubber from the side walls of 2 tires

I hope the side walls will hold up. I cut and ground a little to much on this side

No thread inserts on duralights. Not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing

35x14.5x15 Boggers with Duralight beadlock wheels, 1" adaptors, and tube. Total weight 74.5lbs each

I mounted the beadlock side and the tire was about 8” away from the non-beadlock side. The ether I had was more flammable than explosive. I went through an entire can of ether before I tried the carb and choke cleaner. This was the first try with the carb cleaner.

thats a lot of money to spend just to hack a bunch of it off... but hey they do look nice, you get to use them yet? why did you shave so much from the sides??? would have just ditched the raised letters and been done.

I never liked boggers. The first set I had just had the small lugs cut out and they seemed to spin too easy trying to hill climb so I sold them. I switched to Firestons 31x15.5x15 23 degree v-bars and cut them like turboblue posted and they are great. I need more wheel speed and had the 35” boggers. They came with my buggy so I decided to trim them to take away some weight and make them flex more. . Dean on woodsbuggy.com has them cut the same way and he does very well hill climbing. They look like wrinkled slicks when you take off and seem to hook up pretty well so far. I only have about 1hr of run time on them so I don’t really know if I like them yet. If I don’t I will be cutting every 3rd medium lug out and try that.

This is the real reason I’m trying them. I've tried this hill 3 times and haven’t’ made it all the way with the 31’s. This try was in second gear with a 6rib and a 2332. The motor couldn’t get it going fast enough in 2nd.

i got jackman wheels on the back of my bug and they are like 11 inches wide(not sure exact size cuz i still have old tires on them). what sort of tire can i get that is that wide but still short enough to fit under my fenders. id like to go with 29's or 30's. i need something street legal as the car will be an everyday driver but i also want to be able to run through the mud on occasion. im having trouble finding anything that will fit i would be grateful for any suggestions.

I don't have a pic, but the Mickey Thompson Baha Belted HP looks like a nice front tire. It's 6 ply and is a 31x7.50x15. Gives you a little more height in the front.
