i think it looks a lot better now . some of the rust in the fabric was so bad it was like metal - rock hard so i let the rust remover work on it before i started to massage the fabric , after over an hour i added some dawn dish soap swished it around n let it soak for a hour more . rinse rinse rinse and its already dry its like 90 degrees outside so i set it out under the sun for a bit and its dry . i need some cotton webbing for a new tie cord from hobby lobby , a few stitches and it will be looking pretty good ...... none of the tools pictured came with it i bought it stricktly for the fabric cover ......i think its looking pretty good , i just painted the jack bar today so its not shown , its still wet .
it turned out good enough for me . the fabric is thin in places and has a hole already , i dont try n press my luck to much with old fabric like this trying to get every stain out , thats near impossible . i have cleaned up quite a few of these similarly , the dump soap n rust solution was like MUD !!!
the fabric doesnt rust its the tools inside under damp conditions , so i try my best to remove any rust , maybe clean oil the tools , paint jack bars to help minimize any rust coming back . and keep it DRY !!!
some how the fabric looks way better under flourescent lighting , those others were under the sun .

OK i shared this roll up kit just a little while back , i have completed all the proper tools BUT it was completely missing the tie strap , the threads had come un done there ..........i looked around for relacment strap . looks to be called Cotton twill ribbon . comes in different widths .........so i look around and found some in China ..........i didnt want 150 feet for 20 some dollars , i made an offer and i got 50 feet for 13.27 delivered , it arrived yesterday Khaki color .......i measures some other straps for length , looks to be around 10 1/2 inch lengths . first i folded over the end twice and put a few stitches thru it there so it doesn't fray at the end ..... it looks a whole lot better with the strap , pretty happy with my repair . i am no seamstress !!! i hand stitched this up poking my finger a few times :-)
i have one more kit that needs a new strap i will try n get to today but its a later vinyl cover type .
if anyone else needs straps i have some now 1 inch wide Khaki color .
looks so much nicer now that i can tie it shut .
ok here is the vinyl one with a new strap as well
