Hey All,

I'm looking for the oil filler neck grommet that goes around the neck where it goes thru the tin.

'79 Westy
OEM part # is 021 119 953

-or-

021 119 958

I cleaned up the old one as best as possible but it is still kind of hard to read the number.

Tried Bus Depot and Bus-Boys to no avail.

Anyone???

I've been looking for this part also. On Ratwells site its says its NLA.

A piece of vacuum line sliced down the middle and secured with an adhesive will get you through until you find one.

Unless you're running a TYpe 4 motor, your '70 doesn't have one.

I knew I should have taken some pics before I reinstalled it.

I found a rubber boot that looks like it's for a shifter tube (underneath) or some kind of shaft or tube. It had three distinct bulbous sections from about 2" diameter at the bottom and 1/2" exit hole at the top. I cut the top 1/3rd wide enough to slip over the fill tube and fit through the hole through the tin.

It takes a lot of "shopping" the online VW vendors to find reasonable facsimiles of the odd rubber bits. Some are for other VW's and others from (gasp) non-German vehicles.

Thanks for clearing that up for me VDub Tech. I feel kind of silly :oops: I noticed this little hole and thought that a grommet is needed in there. Does the hole need to be sealed? If so, what is missing?

Good idea, those are shift rod bellows, one on each end of the rear shift rod. Here's a brand new one in my box o' parts for the '79 Westy.
