My car has a ribbed passenger door and a later nonribbed driver's door. I have since managed to find a good ribbed drivers door so I will be fitting this door in the summer.
It looks like someone had modified the later door to take the ribbed door internals (i think) . Ive not taken it apart to see what is inside yet . I wondered if anyone can tell me what is different and are any parts the same ?
The latch is the same as the ribbed side and the cut out has been made to take the latch
Any advice welcome or has anyone have any ribbed door internals they dont want ?
I take it the glass and the quarterlight are the same ?
Thanks |

… and I thought, I was the only one … once bought a '54 and it had a correct passenger side door with a later ('56 to whatever) door on the driver side and the PO cut the jam and installed an early latch, into the door - musta' not been enough room on the inner door as it only has a window winder on the inside - one has to wind down the window, reach out to pull the ice pick, to open the door - WAS AN INGENIOUS IDEA - i'll bet that inventor could not locate the correct ribbed door and made a later door work...
… I replaced that door with a correct one also - I still have that (home made) incorrect door in my stash - i'll keep it as it was a brilliant excitation - a great idea - is just worth keeping …
… by the way, almost none of the door parts are interchangeable - not even the ice-pick outer openers - they function differently and look slightly different too...
… WHAT A GREAT DOOR - i'll keep it forever. - Believe it or not, someone once offered to buy it, from me and I advised, "not for sale" - z |
